Question about JP97-A1450-1 Winch Front Bumper Stinger Jeep Wrangler TJ 199

1 Answer

I used a Jeep Wrangler (stick shift) in 4-low to tow a car. Now I can get it into 4-hi or 4 low, but I cannot get it into 2 WD. Any suggestions? Thanks

My 1997 Jeep Wrangler manual transmission will not go back in 2W mode. I can shift between 4-Hi and 4-low, but not into 2 wheel drive.

91 jeep wrangler YJ shifting problems

do you mean it wont go into gear ? if so what gears ? it could be the clutch going out , if the pedal is soft or easy to push down than it probably needs a clutch. next time it wont go into gear try pumping the clutch or putting it from 2nd to 1st or what ever gear it has problems with

4x4 indicator light

I have seen this issue in some 4x4 vehicles. The issue may be that although you have moved the shift lever, because there is pressure on the axle components, the vehicle has not released the front wheels. After shifting from 4x4 to 2x4, allow the vehicle to move without torque for a few seconds, allowing the components to move into 2x4.

I have a 1987 jeep wrangler and it will not shift into 4 wheel dr

The front axle connects 4wd by vacuum. check the vacuum hoses that run to the actuator. Pay close attention to the vacuum hoses running underneath the battery as battery acid can eat thru those hose easily. Good Luck.

4 wheel drive is messed up

Have you tried letting up on the thhrottle at the same time you shift? That takes the load off the gears and allows the shift to freely occur. Good Luck, Ned

4 wheel drive doesnt work.

Has this Jeep been modified at all?
It sounds like the shifter cable was reinstalled backwards.
Specifically the 4-Low "Not Climbing Well". 4-Low should give you the best torque and hill climbing ability.
Do you feel any "Binding" in the steering wheel (difficult to turn)?
Remember a Jeep uses real driveshafts and differentials to give you 4WD - you cannot engage 4WD or 4-Low on dry hard surfaces. It needs a little bit of slip between the wheels for turns.
Check you're fluids too.

Jeep stuck in 4 wd and transfer case shifter moves about freely

OK, simple problem, and a quick fix...  (And I consider changing my own oil to be the extent of my automotive education.)  I had this happen today.  A little online research from the jeep community showed me the external cable that connects your 4WD knob with the arm on the transfer case is held on that arm with a plastic clip that is fond of disappearing.
When the jeep cooled down, I crawled under, found the cable end hanging freely, and simply set it back on the arm.  With no clip it will pop off again, but it allowed me to shift back to 2WD and roll home.  I understand a zip tie will keep it in place until you get a 3/16 nut of some sort.  (Can't be more specific about the nut yet, I'm waiting for more info.)
It was a relief to find out that I didn't need to have anything done with the transfer case, etc...  If you show the dealer the problem, I'm told they often want to replace the whole cable, as the clip comes as part of the whole.  Waste of time and $$$, and I canceled the appointment with the dealership when I learned the simplicity of the problem.

Jeep stuck in 4 wd and transfer case shifter moves about freely

SOUNDS LIKE THE SHIFT LINKAGE HAS BECOME LOOSE. THE GOOD NEWS IS, THE WARRANTY IS STILL IN EFFECT. PERHAPS A DEFECTIVE PART IS THE CAUSE? IT IS TOUGH TO SAY THE EXACT REASON WHY THIS HAPPENED WITHOUT LOOKING AT IT FIRST HAND. SORRY FOR YOUR INCONVENIENCE. HOPE THEY SOLVE THIS MYSTERY SOON SO YOU CAN GET BACK ON THE ROAD, AND OFF ROAD TOO.

Don't know how to use 4WD on 1995 jeep cherokee

the jeep cherokee has 2 different types of 4 wd systems. the command trac has 2 wd, 4hi, neutral and 4 low. if driving on pavement make sure it's in 2 wd. it also has shift on the fly, up to 60 mph you can move the lever to 4 hi and it will not hurt anything. if trying to go to 4 low, be rolling less than 5mph and put the trans shifter in neutral and move the 4wd selector to 4 low. do the reverse to move back to 4 hi or 2 wd
