Question about Water Heaters
I was wondering if there is way to light the pilot by hand, or if the warning sticker advising against manually lighting by hand, is there because it won't work. I know how to manually light a pilot on systems that don't self-ignite. Also, I didn't notice any gas control knobs . So, I would need a step-by-step guide to follow.
Today's water heaters have sealed combustion chamber and piezo igniter.
If igniter is bad, then water heater will not light... replace igniter.

Most likely it's time to replace the thermocouple, the safety device that makes sure the pilot is lit. New thermocouples are cheap and you can find them at most hardware stores and the big-box places (Home Depot, etc.)
Here is a site with basic information to get you going.

Thermo coupler may be defective. it controls the main gas valve by closing main if pilot is out. make sure thermo coupler bulb is positioned over and near tip of pilot flame, but not in the flame. Thermo couplers are inexpensive and easy to change out.

Hi .. if this is a brand new heater, then you probably need to have the gas line bled. This means getting all the air out of the gas line feeding the burner. This can be done by constantly trying to light the burner or poilot . or it can be bled down by a HVAC tech.
