That is because it is two different output channels. eventually you will blow the speaker or your amp. It wasn't designed to handle the impedance of an external speaker through the stereo
headphone jack. Are you sure that your speaker is hooked up or plugged in?

I have a vox vt40 and the light for the power comes on bit there is no sound. I talked to someone with the same amp and they said there is a clip that switches on the tube that tends to go out with this...

If your amp isn't producing signal, your best bet is to take it into a local Vox autorized repair shop. There are leathel voltages involved and if you're not an experienced tech, you can get hurt, not to mention screwing to amp up worse. Here's a link to the Vox contact page

I have a yamaha mpv 5 piano it will come on but no sound when played.

If you can get sound from the headphones, it may be that you need to have that jack replaced- there's a cutout on a headphone jack so that the sound to your speakers is off when headphones are in use. If you cannot get sound from either the headphones or speakers, it's probably an amplifier problem- which needs a tech. Is it under warranty?

Vox vt40 factory reset

Consider reading the Manual for this amp, it explains how to reset to factory with the VFS5 footpedal. Or with the power off ..hold down CH1 & CH4 then turn power on.. when the Bank & Channel leds start blinking.. then release the Channel buttons. Next press the Tap switch ... the bank & channel leds will change from blinking to lit. with in a few seconds it will enter preset mode.

Blown speakers?

usually with a blown speaker you will get sound but it sounds like there is an abundance of paper very loose on the speaker, so if there is no sound at all try taking the box apart if you are familiar with stuff like this and check to see if there are any loose wires or blown capacitors

No sound out of Behringer BXL3000 speaker

Suspected Faulty PC board Dead Capacitor Or Mod Pot I would suggest returning it for an exchange the problem is your speaker will work on a regular stereo because a stereo powers the sound internally causing the magnets in the speaker to vibrate Headphone jacks are designed to pick up off a seperate circuit board with a different connection to the main board hence the no sound from the speaker.

What is a power amp chip?

The power amplifier is the UPC1188H It will be attached to the heat sink with thermal grease on the back side of it.

Before you change it, Make sure to clean the contacts in the headphone and speaker plug as there are several interupts that may be dirty or corroded and may be preventing your music signal from getting through.

If the headphones work fine- that amp chip is driving them, the fault if the main speaker does not work will be one of those interupts. Contact cleaner should take care of the issue on the headphone jack- just spray the contacts down from the open side of the chassis and plug and unplug a number of times to clean up the contacts. Do the same for the external speaker jack

I bought a Fender Frontman 212R back in March of this year. It worked brilliantly for almost six months, until July 26th, when during a jam session, the audio randomly cut out. Upon inspection, it appeared...

Try using your guitar cord to plug in and out of the headphone jack several times while unit is on. There is a circuit that disconnects the speaker when using headphones and the circuit is activated when something is plugged into the headphone jack. This "switch" can get dirty and cause the can get dirty and cause the problem you describe.

I plugged in my headphones, but it didn't eliminate speaker sound. What am I doing wrong? Thanks

Assuming you plugged into the headphone jack, the switch contacts on the jack have apparently failed.

A cheating way to disable the speaker is to plug in a plug that has no connection to the terminals into the external speaker jack.

Marshall MG50 DFX amp line out/headphones not working

Contrary to what's posted above, the Marshall MG series does not pass the speaker power output through the headphone jack, and inserting the headphones into the jack does not disable the speaker. The headphone amp is a separate circuit and it's input is taken before the master volume. So Jan's post is exactly right. Turn off the master volume and turn up all the other gain/volumes as high as they will go. The other issue is that the headphone jack's output does not drive low efficiency headphones well, so you need some headphones similar to Sony's MDR-V700s to hear it well. Earbuds just don't cut it.

Line 6 spider 210 volume problem

The bypass switch in the headphone jack is likely broken. NEVER unplug the headphones while the amp is on.

There are certain small amps that have a possibilty of popping the power amp due to a feedback arrangement. Likewise, never use the headphone jack for ANYTHING other than headphones.
