Replacement for Compaq SR5710Y CPU cooling fan and plastic screw motherboard mount?

I have a Compaq SR5710Y tower that has a broken plastic mount (screwed onto the motherboard). I need to replace both the cooling fan AND this plastic base. Not able to find a site or a model that would be physically compatible online. Anyone have any suggestions? Thanks.

No solution for this. All cd players are non repairable or at least not cost effective to repair. My advice is to just purchase another one. Cost for these is now in the $40.00 range - cheaper then getting this one fixed

My Acer Aspire M5100 get power but will not turn on

Does the CPU fan come on ?
Does the power lead that plugs into the cpu fan on the motherboard supply the required voltage ?
This one is a bit harder and once you check it you most likely need to apply thermal paste - but is there sufficient thermal paste between the CPU and the heat sink on the CPU ?
Does the power supply box in the tower case have its fan spinning when power on ?
Is the motherboard bent ?
I have seen this one - poor installation with different sized mounting screws. When motherboard gets hot the motherboard went faulty.
Some motherboards need a rubber insulator under the screw maybe there is a short under one of the mounting screws !

Which way does the rear fan go in a compaq computer tower

The proper installation of a CPU fan is often the subject of debate. Though there are conflicting theories as to which direction the CPU fan should face, there are methods to ascertain which CPU fan installation best suits your needs. The determining factors of your CPU fan installation direction include the manufacturer specifications, your case design and the specific design of your heat sink
Horizontal Installation
  • The installation of a CPU fan horizontally to the plane of the motherboard is the most common installation orientation there is. Your options when installing your CPU fan are to blow cool air onto the heat sink or to pull cool air through the heat sink from the motherboard. Horizontal installations show negligible advantages in either installation direction. The differences in temperature usually vary by only 1 or 2 degrees Celsius. The main point to consider when installing a horizontal CPU fan is the location of the rear exhaust fan on the case. If the rear exhaust fan on the case is parallel to the processor, it is advantageous to have the fan pull cool air from the motherboard and push it out above the heat sink. This is because the case fan will quickly draw that hot air away from the CPU and out of the case, allowing for quick cooling.

Vertical Installation
  • Vertical, or tower, heat sinks rise high enough off the motherboard to allow for a fan to be installed perpendicular to the plane of the motherboard. This allows for cooling to go from the front to the back of the case, as opposed to going from the bottom to the top. Optimal installations for vertical heat sinks are blowing toward either the back or the top of the case. If there is no exhaust fan in the top face of your computer's case, it is more effective to orient your fan on your vertical heat sink so that it blows toward the rear exhaust fan of the case. If there is an exhaust fan on the top face of your computer case, it is almost always more effective to mount your CPU fan so that it blows air up toward the top of your case. The reasoning behind this is that hot air rises and will more naturally flow off the top of your case. Also, top-mounted fans are usually larger and allow for faster airflow out of the case.

Manufacturer Recommendations
  • It is often the case with nonstock heat sinks that the manufacturer has designed the heat sink's fan to be mounted in a limited number of orientations. This is usually evidenced by limited mounting notches on the heat sink itself. Most aftermarket heat sinks use technologies such as heat pipes that have specific cooling needs to operate appropriately. Because of this, it is important that in any CPU fan installation you follow the manufacturer's installation instructions.

Hi Compaq 323091001 Motherboard failed in my Compaq d330 desktop. What are some suitable replacement motherboards ? Tony

Hate to tell you, but I just searched on my usual sites and I couldn't find a motherboard that would work. Main concerns:
socket 478 (only found two boards with this) ddr memory (no boards with this) intel 865g chipset (again no boards with this)
Last but not least- most likely a non OEM motherboard is not going to fit inside the tower you currently own. Usually HP/Compaq/Dell use odd motherboard mounting screw locations so you cant just put any motherboard in.
You may be better off buying a new PC.

I have a compaq laptop and my cooling fan stopped workin how do i get to it?

You will have to open the case. This is normally done by removing the plastic strip above the keyboard, removing the keyboard, and then opening the case.
Most laptops have screws on the bottom of the case. In some models, the keyboard screws have a little picture of a keyboard next to them. Eventually, you will probably have to remove all the bottom screws. The keyboard will have screws at the top of it, so they are removed from the top as well as the bottom.
The case is held together with plastic tabs. Once all the screws are out, you can start in one corner and using a plastic or wooden flat utensil (actually a cuticle tool is good if it's plastic or wood) and gently pry the case apart. Then you can get to the fan. It's probably attached to a heat sink which cools the CPU, so you will need to use heat sink compound when putting it back together.

How to take the cpu out of a dell desktop

To remove the CPU from a Dell desktop, you first need to unplug the power cable, and then hold down the power button for five seconds to drain any residual power from the computer. Make sure you are wearing an anti static wrist band, or at least touch something metal to discharge any static on your fingers. Next, remove one side of the case. One side is intended to be removed, and is held in place either by two screws on the back or by a latch that is pulled on the top of the case (unless it is a clamshell tower that opens in half). Once open, you should see a cooling fan and a heatsink (metal radiator) near the center of the motherboard. In most cases, the cooling fan and heatsink can be removed as one unit by unscrewing four screws near the base of this assembly. There may also be a plastic shroud around the fan that directs air out that will need to be removed first. Once the heatsink is removed, you can see the processor chip, or CPU. To extract it from the motherboard, you will need to flip a small, thin metal switch beside it that holds the chip securely in the socket it sits in. Once you flip this switch, you can carefully lift the cpu from the socket. If you are replacing the CPU, you can reverse these instructions, but you may need to apply some thermal compound to the cpu to help with the conduction and dissipation of heat.

How to replace motherboard

1. Contact eMachines, and purchase an identical replacement motherboard.
2. Disconnect all the exterior cables from your computer (keyboard, power, mouse, et cetera).
3. Remove the side-panels.
4. Disconnect all the interior cables from your motherboard (power, data, audio, et cetera).
5. Unscrew any screws holding add-in cards (modem, video) in-place.
6. Disconnect those add-in cards from the motherboard.
7. Unscrew the mounting-screws that hold the motherboard to the case.
8. Lift out the motherboard.
9. Take the RAM out of the old motherboard.
10. Take the heat-sink-CPU-fan and CPU off the old motherboard.
11. Put the CPU and RAM onto the new motherboard.
12. Reverse the above steps, to reassemble.

A claim

I had the same problem on my v2000. apparently the fan shroud for the cpu cooling fan is made of plastic and can deform. In my case the deformation allowed the fans blades to strike the heatsink stalling the fan. This would lead to system overheat and shutdown. I disassembled the unit removed the fan shroud and installed .5mm O-rings onto the mounting screws moving the fan away from the heat sink and allowing normal operation. This repair is not for the faint of heart as these are tiny screws.
