Question about Sony KV-36XBR450 36" TV

1 Answer

Red Colour is faded....looks almost purple?

I have been using my TV for 6-7 years with a Bell Satellite ExpressVu system. The TV is ALWAYS on.....I just turn off the satellite receiver and the screen goes dark.
After many years, I now have a faded red colour, not a deep rich's almost purple? or Crimson.
There is not a Red, Green, Blue separate colour adjustment....only the on-screen adjustments.....they don't seem to fix the problem.
I'm not sure what to do? The TV weighs 235 lbs so it's not easy to take to the shop for a test/assessment. Is there a test I can do? Some standard RBG signal to check the colours?
Thanks for any help

Re: Red Colour is faded....looks almost purple?

This might be caused by the CRT or by the chroma circuitry. You will need a schematic diagram and a multimeter set to read voltage. The first thing would be to look at the voltages on the CRT socket. With the TV on and the back off, using the schematic measure the voltages on the CRT socket and see if they match the schematic, if they do not (and they wont) find out if the Red Cathode voltage is too high of to low. If too high the red video circuitry might be at fault if too low the CRT might have a Cathode to grid short. In either case power down the TV and with determine if the CRT is bad (using a CRT Tester / Rejuvenator) Run a series of test acording to the instructions of the CRT Tester. This will tell you if the CRT is bad and if it is bad what problem it actually has. Then you may or may not have to rejuvenate the CRT (follow the instruction on the Tester / Rejuvenator) to do this. If the CRT is not bad then you will have to test the chroma video circuitry to see which component is causing the problem.

As you see you will need some equipment to do the job with. and you will have to have a little bit of an electronics background, If you do not have these I would suggest that you take the TV to a qualified TV repair shop for servicing.

I hope this helps,
Thank you,

Red colour appearing on screen

Your tv could have one of several faults. None of which are to be tackled by anyone except a qualified engineer due to the electric shock hazard.the first problem could be the crt (tube) the second could be the componets on crt base circuit board ie resistors or ic.
With a tv 9 years old it may not be economical to carry out a reair.

Purple picture with sound

Hi, that sounds likes a degaussing coil problem,or a magnet have come to close of the tv, you will
needs a picture demagnetizer where you gone put it on the picture tube and making circle on the tube and walking back at the same time you still making circle and enlargin the circle at the same time you walk after 10 feet about turn off the demagnetizer,
that should bring at the normal color; if not thats
inside ,look for a positor or thermistor to replace
and try to dont turn the tv when the power is on
thats affect the degaussing process it work only when you start the tv on for few second..
good luck and hope that help you

I need 3 digit code for my Prima tv to program bell express vu

Programming an Expressvu remote control can be frustrating. There are two basic ways of doing in it. The first one involves knowing both your TV brand name and also knowing the proper code to input in your remote. The second method is doing an automatic search. The following is a step by step procedure in how to program your dish network or Expressvu remote.

1)Make sure your TV and Satellite Receiver is ON.
2)Press and hold TV button until all lights on the side of it flashes. The TV button is the second button on the Top left hand side corner of the remote control.
3) Release that button, then press & release RED Button. You will notice TV button is stays on. If, it doesn't stay ON, you must repeat step 2 & 3. Otherwise, your batteries are low, you MUST change then.
4)Press and release the UP Arrow Key on the remote until TV turns off. Notice the UP arrow key button is the button below the volume keys (Stop button for VCR.)
5)Make sure you are aiming remote control to TV while pressing and releasing UP arrow key button. When you find the right code, the TV will turn OFF.
6) Immediately after, TV turns off, press # key.

Color is messed up

Solved. I tried the 2nd Bell receiver and Color is fine now.
Took the "questionable" receiver to 2nd TV. Satellite was awaiting connection message, then it said it was downloading a software update to the receiver. After the download completed, the color was fine.

Nothing to do with the JVC TV, it was related to a software update from Bell Expressvu to the 2700 card/receiver.
