Question about Sony BRAVIA KDL-40S2010 40 in. LCD Television
Worked great 3 years. turned it on the other day and the LCD started to come like normal then went dark. Do not have sound either. LED blinks 6 times and repeats. Has the LCD died? Or it is possibly the main power board? Has been plugged into a surge protector all along. It still functions, no known spikes.
I searched the manual but no reference to led codes.
I would contact Sony support. Sony is a great company and will stand by their products.

Try leaving the TV unpugged for 30 minutes so the TV can reset itself.
If that doesn't work, most likely the TV has a power supply related problem. The most common thing to go out is the circuit board that supply power to the screen. Commonly called a Backlight Inverter Board.
I can't say it's 100% the problem because I can't actually look at the tv over the internet.
If by chance the TV is still under warranty, go that route.
If not under warranty and If you have some electronic experience, you can purchase a Service Manual over the internet and diagnose the source of the problem and fix it by soldering in the new part. The Service Manual will give you circuit diagrams, test points, and part# lists. Usually, cost under $20.
I hope I shed some light on the subject for you.

SOURCE: PICTURE WENT BLANK TV TURNED OFF
Replace the thermal fuse part# 1-910-006-44 You can verify this by jumping the connector where the fuse connects and the lamp will come on.

SOURCE: Red Light Flashing 6 times
When the lamp fails in this unit, often the thermal fuse opens. The error code is 6 blinks. To replace this part requires a great deal of deal of disassembly.

I had a similar problem with my Phillips 42 in. LCD HD TV.
Here's the problem. The Power Supply Board. I opened my TV up(warranty was up of course) and found several bad capacitors. Phillips and several other companies were sold capacitors that although were highly rated failed within 5 years, some sooner, because of a lack of preservatives. All sorts of electronic equipment is now being effected due to these defective capacitors.
1. Take it in and have it fixed
2. Open it up, check the board for faulty capacitors(bulged or leaking) Buy a new Power supply board and install it.
3. Remove PSB, remove faulty capacitors and replace with compatible new ones.
Hope this helps
