How do i know if my palomar 250 is a high drive or low drive amp

Doesn't say sideband on it anywhere, need to figure out how many watts to drive ot with... Has two wrf 655 i think

If it is made by Palomar and it is a small amplifier, you can bet it is a low drive. Check those transistors. It could have the new Mosfet 655's in which case definitely low drive 3-6 watts input max.

there is your problem . You bought it on ebay ,paid twice as much as it is actually worth and you got screwed . Now you have to get it fixed because you bought a broken piece of equipment. If you have another radio hook it up to the amp and see if it works . Maybe the amp don't like your radio? If it doesn't work then we know its the amp so now treat it like another radio and look inside to see if anything is out of place or maybe burnt , from ebay . You might need a multi meter to do this . check all your voltages and make sure the amp has continuity going from pl to pl set your meter to ohms and insert the probes into the hole on each pl . that will tell you if there is contact . Now you should get a schematic to check out all the voltages of the components inside . It just might be that the amp is drawing to much or not enough amps to run it . I am confident you will find the problem and get it fixed .

Sorry I don't know the answer to your question because I don't know the specification of your amplifier but like a car engine that might have a capability of, say, 200 horsepower, in use and for practical purposes that figure is completely immaterial because most of those horses would never be used by a responsible driver. It requires only about 20 horsepower for an average car to maintain 50mph so it hardly matters what the potential power output is as long as it is capable of doing the work assigned to it.

The average person listening to a hi-fi in an average room requires an average power output of around half a watt. It is immaterial if the amplifier is capable of 50, 150 or 500 watts because for comfortable distortion-free listening most of that potential power will never be used.
With hi-fi the problems start with the speaker systems. It is a mistake to use a high power speaker in a domestic environment regardless of the potential amplifier power output. The amp will only produce the power it is capable of if it is driven hard (the volume turned up) and because doing that is anti-social, wasteful and harmful to health and comfort that should not happen but high power speakers tend not to reproduce sound efficiently at low power and so more power must be provided than would otherwise be needed with good low power speakers.
Fashions have changed and it is now difficult to find good hi-fi speakers for the domestic environment that reproduce sound efficiently at low power levels and speakers with a 10 watt rating, the ideal type for small to moderately-sized accommodation, are almost impossible to find these days but it is still possible to find good drive units rated at between 20 and 50 watts that perform fairly efficiently at social volume levels.

If its in a car or truck use heavy gauge wire to power it. I use a 3ft jumper between the radio and amp. Should use a grounded antenna system. Not a "MAG MOUNT" type. Those can "feed back" rf to your radio and cause problems. If using in the house, a large power supply will be needed.I own a palomar elite 400 hd.It uses every bit of my 30amp power supply. Your hd amp should like the hp radio.

No it cannot. If you want that buy a Ranger or a Galaxy.

The 29 can be altered to increase modulation and turned down in power to match it to amp for increased output of power.

Set to dead key a watt or so with a 100 watt amp it would dead key low and swing to 80 to 100 watts pep.(peak envelope power)

There is no specific dead key setting for an ampifier. Each amplifier requires different dead key to operate at it peak effeciency AND to sound the best it can. If I knew what type of amp it was I could give you a better idea. Just for a reference point I will give you these numbers. For your basic amplifier ( 2 pill - 4 pill non high-drive) you could safely set the carrier at 1 - 3 watts. This is why the majic number for most people is a 2 watt dead key. For a High-Drive amplifier you really have a broad range of settings for deadkey. Generally anywhere between 2 - 8 watts. Some can even handle 10 watts. This DOES NOT mean that they need a HIGH dead key to operate properly. Just FYI, what you run into with improper dead key is either a really choppy, splattery, overmodulated sound with a deadkey that is to low, OR, a really pinched up, tight sound with a dead key that is to high. Also, a HIGH dead key can cause an amplifier to over heat, causing the transistors (pills) to fail prematurely.
To set your dead key "properly" you really should have a technician "match up" the radio with the amplifier. This means, he will hook up the radio and amp that you plan to use with one another in line and tune (set dead key) the radio to "match" the amp. This will give you the optimal audio and performance without overdriving the amp.

Let me address the wiring kit first. No the higher wattage kit is not a problem however you will need to change the inline fuse to an amperage that is more suitable for 250 Watts. The amps main fuse will be able to protect the power supply but no need to have a larger fuse than needed.

Now lets talk about the fuse. First off what kind of amp is it? Just for my knowledge. What is the rated impedance that amp can drive bridged mono or stereo (however you have connected it) If the total impedance presented by the woofers is lower than what the amp can drive the amplifiers power supply will demand more current than is designed for. I guess what I need to know is the model of speaker, model of amplifier and size of the inline fuse (right next to battery). Initial diagnosis would say the load on the amp is too large.

Rule of thumb for calculating impedance. The easy way if you have two or more characteristic impedance that are equal then you can add them and divide by the number of impedance to get your total Load however the formula is as follows,

1/((1/Z1)+(1/Z2)+(1/Z3)+(1/Z4)) or (Z1^-1 +Z2^-1+Z3^-1+Z4^-1)^-1
(They are the same thing, just written differently)

In electrical terms Z is your impedance, the negative exponent just means reciprocal.

So in your case if you have 2 dual voice coil subwoofers with a 4 ohm per coil impedance. If you parallel the two coils you would have a 2 ohm impedance. Then if you parallel the two woofers you would have a 1 ohm impedance. This is to low of a load for your amp to drive.

I have an HR 2510 that shows no dead key watts on AM ????


This sounds exactly backwards, you should have a carrier on AM with some forward swing, on SSB (sideband) there should be no carrier & all modulation (forward swing). Could you have the settings mixed up or has somebody put a modulation kit in your radio & messed something up or maybe one of the knobs has been removed & not replaced correctly ? Just a couple of things you might look into.

The VS3507 Is a class D monoblock.
Your optimum wiring for this amplifier is a 2 Ohm load - so it produces its full potential power of 350W RMS.

To Achieve a 2 ohm load, the most common load is one of the following...

Low voltage only or can timer be used for 110 v


1 hp= 750 watts
125 vac = 125 volts alternating current, wall outlets
5 amp= 5amps

125vac x 5amps= 625 watts

a timer is a switch with a clock on it. just like a switch in a lamp cord.
