Question about Whirlpool LTE5243D Top Load Stacked Washer/Dryer

1 Answer

Washer won't do anything. It won't fill or spin. Nothing!!

I finished washing a load, then put a new one in but nothing happened. I checked the plug and it was all good not to mention the dryer was still working. I tried putting it on a spin cycle and holding down the lid button and still nothing. I am thinking it is electrical of some sort.

If it is the timer dial you can take a multimeter and see if you have a solid circuit by checking the ohms readings. When it should be on you should get the same reading almost as you get just touching the two meter leads together. If not then you are not getting contact inside the dial so no electricity can flow through. That tells you if it is the problem or not. I personally would start with the power cord. Sometimes it is the plug in part of the power cord that goes out. It is a simple fix. You can either replace the cord or just the end that is bad if it is the end. Start with the simplest first.

Since the dryer is still working the cord connection would be the place to start on the power cord. It is inside the back panel. Might even just be loose? You can also first check with the plug in wires on the dial to make sure the connections haven't got corrosion on them. Then do the multimeter check on the dial if they are not corroded.

Concerning the lid switch. You need a multimeter to check it also. You can take it out of the circuit then use the ohms meter to see if when you push it down the meter read about the same as when you touch the leads together. If it does the switch is still working. If it doesn't you have found your problem.

If nothing is working at all it is probably the timer switch (dial you turn) they die. Not too expensive to fix. If you are comfortable with tools you can very likely do it your self. I know this because I paid a service to do it. When he was done, I went - Huh, that's all there is to it? It is just above Lego. If I remember correctly it took him less than 15 minutes to do it but I of course had to pay the minimum service call charge.
So just find a YouTube video for changing timers and you'll see what I mean.
Of course if it is not the timer you just wasted time and money.
I don't know how to confirm if it is the timer that is broken. Perhaps there is a diagnostic video....
Good luck

SOURCE: Washer Stuck in Cycle

I checked the lid switch and nothing appears to be broken (cracked plastic). What exactly should I be looking for? Also during the agitator cycle I opened the lid and the washer stopped working. Does that mean that the lid switch is working?

Does washer spin without any clothes or water, try 'spin' only. If no, then u might have a loose connection to the motor. After u disconnect from the wall socket, see behind to see if all connections are ok. Do not over-load your machine, it could trip a switch which will stall things. Suggestions...
