17.5 briggs motor back fired 1 time and now when i engage blades the motor boggs down

The engine is timed internally and externally. Sometimes when it backfires the external timing key where the flywheel and crankshaft join will be damaged enought to put the engine out of time. The engine may run but when put under a load such as cutting grass it will fail. This is about a 30 minute repair and about $2.00 in parts.

I got craftsman lt 1000 runs great except when you put in gear or start blades can anyone tell me what they think the problem is

you didnt state on what it does when you try to engage the blades . im assuming that it trys to die . or least boggs out the motor .. also you didn't mention if this has the electric pto clutch or not .. if it has the pto clutch then id say that it has a relay missing or bad . also check the safety switches and make sure they are all working . most riders have one on the seat anymore and if its not working right then it causes a ground and trys to kill the engine . i know this isnt the proper thing to do but you may try to just unplug this one and see if that helps ...

Engine chokes & dies when deck PTO engaged...

you need to start with your electric clutch and then backwards to your idler pulleys and deck spindles and bearings.
your electric clutch should almost stop the blades instantly when disengaged ,check the center bolt in the clutch to be sure it is tight also
remove the belt from the electric clutch and energize clutch any noise? sometimes the bearing goes bad in the clutch itself.
check all of your 3 spindles for noise and loose. remove belt and spin by hand and listen for quiet and they should turn free with no binding
check blade tightness
any item the belt goes around needs to be looked at for secure and operable.

LTX1000 42" 18HP Kohler - Blowing fuse after 2-4 min mowing.

sounds as though you are on the right track
but be sure to check the wiring directly from the electric clutch on the front of the motor back to the switch
a wire could be pinched in the frame and shorting out intermittingly
look around and find those wires and move them around and look for chaffing and tightness
and what you could also do is to unhook the clutch at the connection to it at the front of the motor and engage switch and ride around and see if fuse blows and if not you may have an electric clutch issue

Removal of the electric(coil) clutch that engages the drive belt for the mower deck. This is on an ingersoll rand garden tractor 4020 with an Onan engine. The coil shorted out last night, blew a 30 amp....

Problem has b een resolved. I found a pair of channel-loks narrow enough to get down on the back side of the motor. Was able to get a good hold on the coupling that drives the hydraulic pump and loosen the bolt that held the old PTO electric clutch. Once the bolt was removed, it dissassembled very easily. Installation of the new clutch, although it is different from old one, went well also. Be sure to install new unit as one unit,(not in separate pieces).

Thanks for you concern, as I was at a standstill for awhile. Thanks for being there.
