There should be a wiring diagram on the motor -- Maybe under the cover plate where the wire goes into the motor -- Maybe on the plate on the side of the motor.
The wires are two hots (red and black), one neutral (white) and one ground (green or bare). The red and black need to come from the two terminals on a 220/230 volt breaker.

I have a LG washing machine, model WD1256RD that won't power up I've changed the main power board no joy.

did u check for a fuse as some of the newer models have a fuse sometimes located along the body or tub ? it may have bad fuse, also check for live voltage where the power plug wire attached to the motor . Your schematic should show which wire from the motor is the live wire. There 2 wires u can jumper with a test plug with 2 stripped back wires and a prong at the other end, when plugged in and attached to ur motor it should start, if it starts then ur power cord is bad. This is a live power test with a multimeter to check for proper voltage. as you may not be getting voltage to the unit

Whirlpool Dryer IED4400SQ0 wont heat

Check your thermal fuse and the thermal cut-out fuse, two different fuses that can cause a dryer to run and not heat when open, or some dryers will not start when one of these has gotten too hot and opened....Usually caused by venting restriction of too much lint, common problem...........

A open operating thermostat or the high limit being open are also possible........;.

The other checks are live voltage checks, timer contacts, wiring, temp and internal motor switch......schematic is probably in back of control panel........
Takes some reading of a wiring diagram, understanding how to split the circuit ............Not for beginners.............Hope this helps...........do not forget to unplug dryer when doing anything on unit besides live voltage checks on circuits,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,

Ground leakage detected device cut the power

Take wires out of plug and the wire from the connecter box of machine. With multi tester test earth to live and earth to neutral. If there is a short circuit it will show on which wire it is. Next disconnect live and neutral wires from motor and run test on all wires. If no short the motor is faulty and test the motor connectors. If the short is not found the motor is not the problem but the control system. Disconnect all wires from controls and test everything isolated and individually.

Want to add 240volt outlet to generator

You CANNOT do this, USA 240V is derived from a poly phase scenario, IE 120V line to neautral and 240V line to line, UK 240V is derived from 1 line to neutral it will not work unless you power a transformer

I have a next door neighbour with an outside powered sun blind / awning, he has not been able to get to work. The 240v tubular motor (Lid technology) has a five wire flexible cable colour codede as folows:...

first there is no 240 volts mostly you mean 220, and why 220 well it must be a heavy awning, green is always ground, then wires colored black and brown are power to motor, never heard of using blue wiring as a neutral wire, best bet is to call the manufacture and ask how it should be wired, if all else fails call an electrician

How do you test the voltage for a dryer? Bought a testing meter to test the continuity of (250 or 120...) just don't know how to go about it.

You cannot test continuity with this unless you have a death wish. You could see if you had power going to an object but that would not let ye know if power was going through it. Both sides of the heating element could be hot and therefore light up the tester but that would not PROVE the heater was ok. To do that you would need to remove a wire (while live) connect up to the live 240 volt wire and the leg to the heater THEN if the light comes on yeah you have continuity but you could be KILLed in the process. It would be better to get a meter and check each item for continuity:
