It's a 1994 ksm5 model and the circuit board is broken . It worked before I moved and was in storage for 4 months????

If you already know the board is broken the sensible solution is to replace the board at the same time keeping your eyes open for whatever may or may not have broken it to start with.

Is this a Kitchen Aid? Is it possible to buy this circuit board from somewhere?

This is a kitchen aid. BUT!!!! it is an international model that was sold in countries with 220 volts. Look underneath the mixer for a white tag it should have a model number and a serial number, if you can get us those numbers then we can help with the parts. Hope this helps.

Broken wire - Kenwood A701A

black wire indicates negative so if you can see a place on the circuit board that looks like that's were it came from then get some advice from an electronics person before you put it together.

Kitchenaid mixer works intermentily

How old is the mixer? If older, check for possible short in cord either at plug end or at mixer body. Best to disassemble and test cord with VOM meter. Often cord and break internally and show open circuit only when cord bent a an angle.

Next< i would look at the speed mixing switch, the mechanical part, not the electronic board, for defect such as dirty contacts.

If above do not work, then check motor brushes. And, only then I would suspect electronic controller.

Please psot Mixer model and serial number rfor further assistance

Fails to run

The governor should move back and forth as the speed control goes from speeds 1 through 10. It's purpose is to push on the control plate in order to obtain the different motor speeds.

The mixer motor starts and stops, it will not continue running on any speed. By playing with the speed selector you can get it running sometimes but you cannot keep it running if you change speeds.

Here is how your speed control works:

Speed Control
The speed control of the mixer is attained through the use of a governor assembly mounted at the rear of the control plate assembly.
The electrical circuit is made and broken by the action of the fly ball governor revolving against the control plate.
When the switch lever is moved to an ON position, the position of the control plate with respect to the governor is changed by the action of the switch lever.
Thus, when the control plate is set close to the governor, a relatively low speed of the motor causes the governor to make or break the mixer’s electrical circuit through the control plate.
When the control plate is set farther away, a greater motor speed is required before the governor starts breaking the circuit.
The action of the governor is such that the speed of the motor will remain constant for a given setting of the control plate within certain loads.
After certain loads have been exceeded, the speed of the motor will drop to meet the torque requirements of the given load.
Speed is controlled by the governor and the control plate in conjunction with the phase control.

TRIAC RMS VOLTAGE
BOTH CONTACTS OPEN - 40 VOLTS
ONE CONTACT OPEN - 80 VOLTS
BOTH CONTACTS CLOSED - FULL VOLTAGE
NOTE: The triac regulates the power the motor sees depending on control board contacts.
A device called a triac is a part of the phase control circuit.
This device determines the amount of power the motor sees dependent upon the condition of the control board contacts.
If both contacts are open, about 40 volts RMS is applied to the motor and about 80 volts is applied when either contact is closed and the other is open.
When both contacts are closed, the triac is full on; consequently, full power is applied to the motor. In this way, the speed is controlled.
If the mixer motor begins to run too fast for a
particular speed setting, one or both contacts open, which cuts back on the voltage the motor sees, thus slowing it up.
If the motor operation becomes too slow, one or both contacts will close, applying the needed voltage to the motor to sufficiently increase motor speed.
This is always accomplished through the triac.
The control plate contacts control the triac, and in turn, controls the amount of power supplied to the motor.

Mixer speed turned erratic!

I would recommend that you first check the Hall effect sensor which determines the speed.  I had this exact problem and I actually went out and bought another Hall sensor for about $13.  I replaced the original sensor and made sure that the connection between the sensor and control board was nice and snug. My blender worked as good as new! But I was curious to know if my original sensor was defective so I put it back in mixer and again made sure all of the connections were tight.  Guess what?  My original sensor also made my mixer work!  There was nothing wrong with my original Hall effect sensor except the connection between the control board and sensor was not adequate--unfortunately I didn't check the connections before I decided to buy another one. My guess is that the connection between the control board and the sensor probably loosens or comes undone over time from use and vibrations.
1.  Download the mixer parts and diagrams from the Kitchenaid website to see what the Hall effect sensor looks like. BTW the part number is 9703312. 2.  You'll need a phillips head screwdriver to open up the mixer. 3.  Make sure that the connection between the control board and sensor is absolutely tight and snug. 4.  Also, make sure that the orientation of the sensor connection between the control board and sensor is correct. it's hard to know which way the sensor should be connected because the control board has three prongs and the sensor can attach facing up or facing down. If, after you've made the connections, the mixer still doesn't work.  Disconnect the sensor and reconnect it with the prongs facing the opposite direction and try it.  I actually found the right orientation through trial and error.  By going through this trial and error, I also had my Eureka moment when I realized that the original sensor probably would also work it were reconnected with correct orientation.   5.  This whole process probably takes less than 10-15 minutes to perform.  6.  Make sure you use common sense and unplug the mixer when making connections and such.

I just did this last week!
1 Unplug Mixer 2 Remove screw on TOP of mixer body, at back. 3 Remove rear cover and paper-gasket thing (its not the end of  the world if you end up tearing it a little). 4 the phase control (little circuit board w/wires) is at the top (you  should see it very easily) held on by one screw, remove it. 5 when the circuit board is unscrewed, disconnect all the wires  that are connected FROM THE CIRCUIT BOARD to the  black control plate (NOT all wires-there should be 4 left on  the control plate at this point).  you don't need to  remember where all the colors go as the control plate is  labeled->but looking at them and making sure you  understand the abbreviations would be beneficial  (BK=black, BL=Blue RW=Red&White W=white R=red etc.   6 install new phase control (screw), either buy new thermal  grease (used to keep the board cool->it transfers heat to  the mixer's housing) or try to salvage what you can from  the old one. 7 connect wires, paying attention to labels. 8 reinstall paper gasket, then cover, then screw to hold on back- cover.

Mixer works at high speed only

You might have someone repair it for you; here is a place that charges a flat fee of $69.95 and thats including the return shipping. Check 'em out:http://www.marbeck.com/repair_mixer_kitchenaid.html The speed controller board sounds like the right direction but it hard to know if that is the issue until you install a new part. This is a known issue as far as I have heard around the internet. You might give KA a call and see if they can help; all they can say is no. I have heard they revised the part to fix the problem; my brother had a couple of boards replaced on his pro model and now it seems fine. Good luck!
