Frank,
Sorry to tell you, it sounds like the compression on your saw might be low. If the saw is a new saw you can look for a bad head/cylinder gasket, or a stuck compression release if it has one. If it is an old saw likely it will need a top end rebuild.

Poulan pro 5020 pull start binds up

Try pulling out the spark plug. Fuel or oil may be in the cylinder. Fluids can not be compressed so this could be the cause of the bind.

Compression lockup

Remove spark plug. Pull rope several times to blow out cylinder. Spray WD 40 in spark plug hole. Pull rope several times. ensure compression is present. Replace spark plug with new one. Spray starting fluid in cylinder before replacing spark plug. Ensure plug wires snaps on tight. Check oil level, fill with 30w oil if required. All mowers have a low oil start cutoff. Clean or replace air filter.

Won't start, appears to be getting gas, primer bulb full.

HELLO. DO YOU HAVE THE USER'S MANUL.? IF NOT HERE IS WHAT YOU CAN TRY.(1) FIRST . TAKE OFF THE AIR CLEANER. AND CLEAN THE FILTER.. USE A LITTLE DISH SOAP LIKE DAMW.DISHSOAP AND WATER. ONLY. WASH & RINCE OUT.! THEN DRY IT OUT. (2) THING TO DO IS PULL THE SPARK PLUG OUT. AND REPLACE WITH THE SAME AS WHAT IT IS IN IT. (3) OR U CAN CLEAN IT WITH A TOOTH BRUSH & A LITTLE GAS ON IT. OR STARTING FLUID ON THE BRUSH .CLEAN IT THEN LET IT DRY OUT. AFTER THEY ARE DRY. (4) PULL ON STARTING ROPE WITH OUT THE PLUG IN IT. 3- 4 TIME'S . THEN (5) WITH THE AIR CLEANER OFF & THE CHOKE OPEN. LOOK IN THE CARBURATOR AND PUSH THE PRIMER BLUB. TO SEE IF IT IS GETTING TO THE CARB.? YOU SHOULD SEE IT OR HEAR IT OR SMELL IT.? IF THERE IS TO MUCH.&. IF THERE IS.! THEN PULL THE STARTING ROPE AGAN 3 TIME'S . (6) THEN PUT A VERRY SMALL AMOUNT OF GAS IN THE PLUG HOLE AND PUT THE SPARK PLUG BACK IN. & WITH THE AIR CLEANER OFF PUT THE CHOKE TO THE STARTSPOT.. PRIME IT 2-3 TIME'S WITH YOUR PRIMER BLUB AND TRY TO START. IT. IF NOT (7) PULL THE PLUG OUT AGAIN , AND PULL THE ROPE AGAIN 3 TIME'S . (8) THEN GET STARTING FLUID AND SQUIRT SOME IN THE PLUG HOLE & PUT THE PLUG BACK IN. ..THEN SQUIRT A LITTLE IN THE CARB & TRY TO START IT . IT SHOULD WORK. . IF YOU DO THE SOLUTION'S FOR THE PROBLEM YOU ARE HAVING THANK YOU . REMBER TO VOTE FOR ME THANK U.?

Oil on sparkplug. cleaned plug but engine dies with oil on plug. gasket problem??

Oil on the plug is an oil problem. it means that either you tipped the mower and oil ran into the cylinder, or you put too much oil in it and it's leaking into the cylinder. Check the engine oil level, empty some if it's over the level it's supposed to be. You'll want to clean the cylinder, and here's how to do it. Get a can of starting fluid. Take the spark plug out, and remove it from the wire, spray a good 5 second shot of fluid in the cylinder, and pull the rope several hard pulls. This will shoot the fluid and oil out the spark plug hole, and the starting fluid will evaporate within a couple of minutes. Spray the firing end of the plug with starting fluid to clean, shake it out, blow on it to get the extra out, and let it dry(should take about a minute.) Pull the rope another round, and then put it back together. It should run fine after that. It'll probably smoke a decent amount at first, but it will go away within a few minutes.

Can't pull the start rope

could be a number of things like pull rope tangled inside of starter cover or blade brake is not working which is designed to hold the flywheel or even something as hydro-locked which is fluid in the cylinder such as gas in the oil or to much oil remove the spark plug and see if it will pull then
