My laptop won't charge. It was working when plugged in and now it won't even do that. Will replacing the battery fix my problem?

It sounds like your battery and your charger are not working. Changing the battery should help, but you should first check to see if you are getting voltage to the laptop. Does the green light on the magnetic end (the end that plugs into laptop) light up when plugged in? If so, your charger is working. You should be able to turn on the laptop with or without a battery (even a dead battery) with a good power supply. If you can turn it on, check to see the number of battery cycles you currently have.

Follow these steps to access information about your Mac notebook battery including the cycle count:
  1. Your first step will vary depending on which version of Mac OS X you are using:
    • OS X Snow Leopard v10.6.8 or earlier: Open Apple System Profiler by choosing "About this Mac" from the Apple menu. Then, click More Info.
    • OS X Lion v10.7 or later: Open System Information by choosing "About this Mac" from the Apple menu. Click System Report.
  2. Click Power in the Contents list (under the Hardware section as shown below).
  3. The current cycle count is listed under the Battery Information section.
ht1519-system_profiler-cycle_count-002-en.png

Take notice of Full Charge Capacity (mAh) on your machine. It should be close to the number shown above. If it is much lower than that and/or the cycle count is above 1000, it is time to replace the battery. I hope this helps.

Itunes radio mac 10.5.8 leopard doesn't work since Feburary 2014

You will need a version of iTunes that cannot run under Mac OS X 10.5.8. Because all operating system updates are now accomplished through the Apple App Store, you will need to upgrade at least to Snow Leopard (10.6.8) before you can continue to at least Mountain Lion (10.7.x) which can run a version of iTunes that supports the Radio service. Retail copies of 10.6.x are still available online. Please consult directly with Apple or with one of their "geniuses" at a retail store for more specific advice for your particular computer.

Also, please keep in mind that there are over 6 years of patches and updates involved, and it might take a day or more to download all of that, even over a high-speed connection.

If you have another MAC computer available, you can create a USB key to solve this problem:

If not, I'm afraid you will have to turn to an authorized apple service center. They will do the repair for you.

Hi, Went to the Mac store to upgrade to Snow Leopard and was told my OS was "way too Old to upgrade to Snow Leopard!" Sorry, I'm a numbskull when it comes to these things. Figured as long as...

Apple recommends that if you wish to go from 10.4 to 10.6 then you should purchase the 10.6 Box Set.

System Requirements to run Snow Leopard:
  • Mac computer with an Intel processor
  • 1GB of memory
  • 5GB of available disk space
  • DVD drive for installation
Snow Leopard Installation Instructions:
  1. Just insert the DVD in the optical drive.
  2. Restart your Mac while holding down the C key.
  3. You will be guided through the installation procedure and be prompted at one point to choose which install option you want.
  4. Once the Snow Leopard install is completed the Mac will restart itself.
  5. You will probably be asked to register with Apple upon restart.
  6. Enjoy Snow Leopard on your Mac!
Q: Can I upgrade directly from Mac OS X 10.4 (Tiger)?

A: Yes. Apple recommends purchasing the Mac Boxed Set for this purpose, which will also update iLife (it is unknown at the time of this writing whether older versions of iLife work with Snow Leopard) and iWork. Also note that while it has been said that the $29 upgrade will work with 10.4, it is not officially supported and may be in violation of the licensing terms.

Q: What happened to the different install options? Can't I do an Archive & Install?

A: Apple has revamped the familiar installation options for Mac OS X. You now have two choices, either a straight upgrade or a clean install. Supposedly if you choose to do a straight upgrade, what actually goes on behind the scenes is what was traditionally known as an Archive & Install.

Q: Is there anything I can do to better prepare myself for the upgrade?

A: Yes. It is advisable to run a Verify/Repair Permissions and Verify/Repair Disk in Disk Utility. You may also want to run the maintenance tasks in Onyx. And finally, it would be wise to get your applications up to date using a program like AppFresh.

Trouble downloading songs from G-3 I phone to powerbook g4

font.f1 {font: 12.0px Helvetica} Thanks for asking your question with Fixya Support. I will be glad to assist you.

If you are experiencing issues with downloading songs from iPhone 3G to your Powerbook G4, there are a few steps you need to check:
Make sure your Mac OS X operating system version is up to date. The most current updates for the current 3 most common Mac OS systems out today: Mac OS X 10.4 Tiger: Mac OS X 10.4.11 (Current version) Mac OS X 10.5 Leopard: Mac OS X 10.5.8 (Current version) Mac OS X 10.6 Snow Leopard: Mac OS X 10.6.6 (Current version)
If your present version of Mac OS X does not match the current version update listed above for your system, then click on the Apple menu icon in the upper left corner of your screen and select "About this Mac" to verify. • Then close that window and click on the Apple menu icon once again and select Software Updates andrun the updates.
• Once your Mac OS X has been updated to the most current version, then you will need to visit the link below, then download and install the current version iTunes Link: Download iTunes 10 for Mac (for 10.5 Leopard or higher) Link: Download iTunes 9.2.1 for Mac (for Mac OS X 10.4 Tiger or earlier)
• When you have the current version of iTunes on your Powerbook, then commence to connect your iPhone 3G with your Powerbook and sync your iPhone with iTunes.
I am providing these initial steps to you, due to the limited information I have from you regarding your technical issue, but will be glad to assist you further, if you are unable to resolve your issue with these provided steps.
I hope this helps.

I can't have safari

Its simple, just download it off the apple website,
http://www.apple.com/safari/download/
since you on leopard "1.5.2" you may need to run a system update because you should have been updated to 1.5.7 by now
so if safari still does not work that is why, you need to run a system update.
Here is a little guide on how to do that http://www.switchtoamac.com/guides/mac-os-x/software-update/manually-run-software-update-on-mac-os-x-leopard.html
One thing though if your new to mac's the apple menu is the apple icon in the top right corner :D

My Mac won't run Call of Duty 4

Run Software Update and update your Mac OS X.
Apple releases updates for Mac, like Vista and Service Packs, but Mac uses Mac OS X 10.5.X and X is the patch.
Usually you wont see any changes because they are security fixes

MacBook wont run from battery

Apple does have a battery recall/fixing procedure on certain macbooks and macbook pros.

The battery of a MacBook or MacBook Pro computer may:
  • Appear to have no charge (zero percent)
  • Be unable to power the computer by itself; the computer might work only when it is connected to the MagSafe power adaptor, which only shows a green LED
  • Appear with a black "X" icon on the menu bar

  1. Shut down, then remove and reinstall the battery. Test for the issue(s) again.
  2. Connect the MagSafe power adaptor (if you haven't already) and see if the behavior continues.
  3. If the issue(s) persist, download and install the Mac OS X 10.4.9 Update.
  4. If the issue(s) persist, Download and install Battery Update 1.2.
If, after installing the Mac OS X 10.4.9 Update and Battery Update 1.2, a black "X" still appears in the menu bar, contact apple by calling 1-800-MY-APPLE (1-800-692-7753)
