Question about LaCie 2big Network (2-disk RAID) (301257U) 1000 GB Network Storage Server

Replaced with new drives but can't see the unit in my network (MAC) nor ping to it. But when I put in the old drives I can see the unit in my (MAC) network.

I failed to mention that I had already performed this function with formatting and setting at least one partition on each drive via my MAC thru disk utility then, placing the drives into my LaCie 2 big Network controller. I also performed the reset function of this unit from a solution posted on this web site but, to no avail. Still, I am getting the Red light on the front of the case. In the meanwhile, I will continue to research this.... Any additional information is greatly appreciated.

I've just discovered this as well and you need to set the original drives to safe100, wait until the mirroring finishes and then replace one drive at a time. The factory drives hold the operating system for the unit. I unwittingly wiped both old drives before figuring this out.

New drives must be given a partition before they show up in your network.
Open Finder, in applications find the Utilities folder, there you will find the program Disk Utlilty where you will see the new drives on the left. Select the drive and on the top right is the option to Partition the drive.

How do i fix my mac address and ip address in my mini laptop 9 inch slimbook. It says mac and ip is unavailable

You cannot change your MAC address, literally it's like your network adapter's finger print. Only way to change it would to be to get a new wireless adapter.

Now, if you have a windows laptop, then here is a simple way to troubleshoot what it may be.
Check to see if your Network Adapter is functional
Now what may happen, is a glitch in your network card, outdated drivers (or incorrect drivers), or an unseated Network Adapter (Most network adapters in laptops are not built into the motherboard, which means they can become unseated, however they are usually screwed into place, so this is unlikely), lastly the network adapter may just be bad.
  1. Press the windows key & X at the same time
  2. Select Command Prompt
  3. Type in "Ping" and press enter.
  4. This will ping your own network card, and will verify functionality. If you do not receive any packets, then you should check your drivers first.
  5. IF you do not have an error, and still cannot connect to the internet, then you may have an APIPA or connection issue.
Check for an APIPA
An APIPA is an IP address that is given to your computer when your computer cannot connect to the DHCP (DHCP is what assigns IP addresses automatically in a router or access point). You cannot connect to the internet with an APIPA address.
How to see if you have an APIPA
  1. Press the Windows key & X on your keyboard simultaneously
  2. Select Command Prompt
  3. Type in "IPConfig" without quotations and press enter
  4. To the right of IPv4, you will see a sequence of 4 numbers, this is what's known as an IP address (It looks like
  5. If your IP adress reads anything from to, then you have an APIPA.
How to fix an APIPA
  1. Press the windows key & X again
  2. Go to Network Connections
  3. Right Click on your internet Adapter
  4. Click "Properties"
  5. Scroll down until you see "Internet Protocol Version 4 (TCP/IPv4)
  6. Click on it to highlight it blue
  7. Below it, you'll see three options, "Install... - Uninstall - Properties"
  8. Click on Properties
  9. In this window, make sure "Obtain an IP address automatically" is selected.
  10. Click "Ok"
  11. Click "Close"
Release & Renew
After you tell your computer to obtain an IP address automatically, you'll need to release your IP address and renew it, this will tell your computer to forgot your current IP address, and gain a new one.
  1. Press the windows key & X again
  2. Click on command prompt
  3. Type "IPConfig /release", again, without quotations and hit enter
  4. Wait until your can input another command
  5. Type "IPConfig /renew" and hit enter
  6. Finally, type "IPConfig" once more, you should no longer have an APIPA. (If by chance you still do, you may need to update your network adapter drivers or, by chance, your network card may have become unseated or loose within the desktop or laptop)
Test internet Connection
If you are positive that your router and modem is properly setup and connected to the internet, then continue on to our last test. This test will tell your computer to send 4 small packets of data to several devices. We will first test connection to your router, then we will try Google.
  1. Go to command prompt
  2. Type "IPConfig" without quotations and hit enter.
  3. Make note of the Default Gateway address
  4. Type "Ping" then hit space, and enter your Default Gateway (This will test your connection to your router)
  5. If you don't receive any pings in return, try checking your settings. Also, try checking to see if your connected to your router or that your router is on.
  6. If you receive all of your pings back, then continue to the next step.
  7. Type in "Ping" without quotes and hit enter.
  8. If you receive all packets, your connected to the internet!

I have bought an Epson Artisan 835 printer & can't get it to connect wirelessly to a Billion Router (BiPAC 7300G).This router is connected wirelessly to my i-Mac. I currently have the printer...

1) Please check your router setup whether it does not allow Wireless devices to ping against each other;
2) If it does not allow to ping (communicate) with each other, please disable it first.
3) Then please check your Epson wireless setup whether the DHCP function is enabled; if not, please enable it;
4) Please also input your network gateway, sub-net mask correctly into the Epson printer, otherwise the wireless communication with your network will not work.
5) Then switch off your printer and turn on again to recognize the new settings; and it should work

I have an hp Photosmart Premium and I need to find the mac address

The simplest way to find out the printer's ip address is to ping the printer's name from the command prompt (cmd).

Start > Run and type in cmd, and again type in ping hp photosmart 1500 (Note: this should be name of your printer shown in the Printers and Faxes folder). You'll see lists of available info, look on the lists and you'll see "physical address" or "mac address". It should be 12 characters (without hyphens -) with numbers and alphabets.

In most Hp's network printers, the mac address written on the label so do check it.

Good luck.

Thanks for using FixYa.

Please connect me to Pulkit558

Hi Sir,
I guess you chose a wrong option. This is not Chat but let me give you the instructions on how to get your prints working on both macs.

First of all check the ip address of the mac. Check it on both macs. To do that follow the instructions below.

Step 1. Click the Apple logo on the top left of the screen.
Step 2 Select "System Preferences".
Step 3. Select "Network" under the "Internet and Network" section.
Step 4 Select which connection you'd like to check in the "Show" drop-down menu. If you're hooked up via ethernet, select "Built In Ethernet". If you have a wireless network, select "AirPort".
Step 5 Select "TCP/IP" on the "Network" screen.
Step 6 View your computer's IP address on the subsequent screen displayed on your Mac.

Now you know the ip address of your mac.

Now we have to ping the ip address and have to check if there is connectivity between macs. Follow the instuction below to check that :

Step 1. On Finder in the dock.
Step 2 Click on Macintosh HD in the window.
Step 3 Click on Applications.
Step 4 Click on Utilities.
Step 5 Double-click on Network Utility.
Step 6 In the Network Utility window, click on the Ping tab.
Step 7 In the field under "Please enter the network address to ping"(enter the ip adress of other computer)
Step 8 Click the Ping button.

Try theses steps first and check if they have connection.

Wireless on laptop not active, switch not working

First, go to device manager and see if it was detected. Then, go to the properties and check out to see if it is working.

Next, go to command line by typing cmd in the run dialogue box and type ipconfig /all

If you get a mac address from the network card, then go ping and see if TCP/IP is installed correctly.

If the device manager detects the card, and when you ping and get a response, then the problem isn't the actual wireless card.

If this happens, do a windows system restore to when it was working. Then, if you have to, do a destructive system restore. If it still doesn't detect the card, then the problem is with the wireless card and it needs to be replaced.

Contact the laptop manufacturer to see where the closest repair depot is.

If you have done all of these and still can't get the wireless activemore than likely the ping the mac address of the Just go to command line and type ipconfig /all

Good day, pls. help me, how can i install network ip address for konica 7035. thanks alot

Using arp command (Windows 95/98/NT/2000)
From Windows 95/98 MS-DOS prompt or at Windows NT/2000 command prompt, you can use the arp
command to assign the IP address to the network interface card. It is necessary that TCP/IP is set up
correctly on the computer that will execute the arp command. Perform the following procedure:
1. At Windows 95/98, select [MS-DOS prompt] from the [Start] menu. At Windows NT/2000, select
[Command prompt] from the [Start] menu.
2. Execute the arp command. For example, if the MAC address of the network interface card is
00:11:22:33:44:55 and the IP address to assign is, then input as shown below,
and then press [Enter].
(Example: C:\>arp -s 00-11-22-33-44-55
3. Execute the ping command for the assigned IP address. In this case no response is returned
from the network interface card.
(Example: C:\>ping
4. Turn off the main power supply to the print controller and the main body printer, then turn it
back on.
Chapter 2 Setting Up the Network Interface Card
2-4 Konica Network Interface Card INSTRUCTION MANUAL
A Status Page will be output. Check that the IP address is correctly set in the list. Or, when about 5
minutes have passed after having restarted the print controller and the main body printer using the
ping command, check that the network interface card responds correctly. The ping command is also
executed at Windows 95/98 MS-DOS prompt or Windows NT/2000 Command prompt. The example
of executing the ping command is shown below:
(Example: C:\>ping

Sound Audio card?

Macs don't generally use a replaceable sound card in a slot like PCs. Instead they usually have sound capability built into the main board.
Which model of Mac do have and what model of CD player did you put in it?
Can you hear sound from sources other than the CD player - such as iTunes, internet, system alerts, etc?
As I recall, one CD drive I upgraded on an older Mac did require a light wire harness for the audio output. None of the DVD drives I have replaced recently have needed this.
Did you, personally, remove the old drive? If needed for the new drive, I'm guessing the old drive would have had an audio cable too.

Freecom external network drive 500gm I installed today via wireless router and connection main pc and laptop and copied files over. Now does not work and will not see the external drive. Operating...

If it is a network drive. I believe it must have an IP address.

The best way to start troubleshotting is to know the ip address

Then you can ping the Ip address to know if your computer can see the drive.

If the ping time out...then the drive is not on the network.

If the ping reply then it is on the network. so you'll need to look at the share.

Cannot find print server at all

How this works: Restoring the PocketPrintServer to Factory Defaults In most cases, the best way to restore the PocketPrintServer to factory defaults is through "telnet". However, if you are unable to connect to the device because of a configuration error, use the following method which does not require a network connection. To restore the PocketPrintServer to factory defaults, complete the following steps: 1. Disconnect the PocketPrintServer from the network and power cycle it. When it powers up, the LED will rapidly blink orange for five seconds. 2. Power down the device during the rapid orange blink period. Power up the device and power it down during that orange blink period two more times. 3. Reconnect the network cable and power up the PocketPrintServer. It will have restored itself to factory defaults and will rapidly blink green as it searches for a RARP or BOOTP server to find an IP address. Gleaning If an IP address has not been permanently assigned when the PocketPrintServer is powered on or reset, it will look for a "ping" packet on the network. If the PocketPrintServer receives a "ping" packet within two minutes, it will accept the IP address in the "ping" packet as its own address. To use Gleaning, you must have super-user privileges on a UNIX system. Gleaning also works under Windows 95 and Windows NT. 1. Add an entry in the ARP table that assigns an IP address to the Ethernet address of the PocketPrintServer. To do this, use the "arp" command. arp -s temp Example: arp -s 00:02:16:00:00:01 temp 2. Start a continuous "ping" to the PocketPrintServer. ping Example: ping On some systems, this may require an additional parameter. Some implementations of "ping" only send out one "ping" packet which could get lost in transit. Check your system documentation for more information. 3. Connect power to the PocketPrintServer. The PocketPrintServer will "glean" its IP address from the "ping" packet. This IP address will remain in effect until the PocketPrintServer is power cycled or reset. Therefore, a permanent IP address should be assigned by running the ExtendView TCP/IP utility or via "telnet".
