Question about Car Audio & Video

I have bought an old Philips car radio -serial No GM0400W2139316. Assume it is locked- when I slide it into my Corsa cradle the diplay says "SAFE". If I get the code do you just key in the numbers?- or what are the steps to take. Jerry

I don't know the code but the radio is "Philips No 90532621 and type -car 400--2F3

    Thanks Jerry

I am still trying with your advice-(the display originally read"9 SAFE") and you replied that the code should be 1298.

I followed your instructions and after four dashes appeared on the display-I pressed button 1 once-button 2 twice-button three nine times etc- the display showed 1298---the radio beeped -then the display read '8 SAFE".

on repeating the process the radio beeped then displayed "7 SAFE"

Is the code not right?---or should I try something else?

    I'll await your advice expectantly.

As you can see I haven't "accepted the solution" as my problem hasn't been solved.

You said "the code SHOULD be 1298"--obviously it isn't.

You then said if given the model number you would get the correct code--which details I have provided!--well I have paid money for your "FIX" so I'm waiting for the solution- -which is not a referral to another site involving more money-so I need the correct code from you!

Please deliver on your promise to fix my radio for which you have been paid --

The display on my old Philips car radio reads "7 safe"-and I can't seem to get to the four dashes to enter the code.
    can you help please

Its the problem of memory ic in your unit.its got corrupted.as the code is 1298.but because the memory is corrupted its not detecting the code and showing.7safe or 8safe.this is memory error what it is showing on the display screen.the memory is very rare to get as the model is been stopped manufacturing.try lovcal electronics repair center for getting replacement memory ic if possible.many a times they have it with them as they get it from old same type of unit.
thanks.keep updated.

If you've already entered a code incorrectly you may have to wait 1 hour until you enter the correct code. If you can provide the model number I could try and get the correct code. Until then, try:

1. Turn the stereo off.
2. Turn off the ignition
3. Turn the ignition back on (dash warning lights on)
4. Hold and keep down the AS button on the stereo.
5. Turn the stereo on.
6. Release the AS button after 4 dashes appear on the display
7. Now enter code (if code = 7009. Press preset button 1 seven times, button
2 once
3 once
4 nine times
If you go past you can go round again by pressing the
preset button repeatedly
8. Once all 4 numbers are correct hold down AS again until you hear a beep (2 - 5 seconds)
9. The stereo after beeping will scan to program channels

That should be the procedure but will need the model number to get the right code.

Press and hold the AS button and switch the set on. The display will show 'CODE' followed by . Enter the code using presets 1-4 and again press the AS button.

    Your code should be 1298.

Seems like the code isn't being accepted. To get it out of 7 safe mode and back into 10 Safe mode, you need to leave it switched on for 2 hours (sometimes 1, but usually 2 hours with this model).

Looks like you might have to use a service such as this who generate the correct code based on the serial number for a small fee.

I need a radio code for a vauxhall corsa

First make sure that the code has not been noted somewhere within the car (underneath the ash tray, glove box , rear of sun visor etc)

To see if your code is available here  for free then the radio will have to be removed from the dashboard (and if you are lucky, someone may have written the code on the casing ) .

If not then POST A NEW  QUESTION

quoting the radio MAKE+MODEL plus ALL the LETTERS+NUMBERS on ANY LABELS ,BARCODES or STAMPED IN THE METAL CASING

Also quote the MAKE of CAR

note: Unfortunately not all radios can be decoded using the Serial Number

Otherwise try your Main Dealer ...........or take it into a Decode Service who will plug in a laptop to read/recode the memory chip (EEPROM). This takes a few minutes and shouldn`t be too expensive

Philips car 400

7SAFE means that wrong codes have been entered previously.

To reset LEAVE SWITCHED ON ....UNDISTURBED and it will automatically reset itself (usually after an hour or two)
