Question about ESA Televison & Video

Open Question

ESA television does not have a method of switching to input 1 or 2 without using the remote.

I have an ESA tube television that I have recently connected to an RCA digital to analog converter box to get on-air channels via an antenna. The remote supplied with the RCA converter's ESA codes do not seem to work. (the model of the converter + remote is DTA800B1). I can't find a switch or button on the television that changes the input; the channel buttons on the front do not go to AV1 or AV2, just the basic channels. Is there a) some codes for this remote that I'm not aware of, or b) some panel on the television that I'm not aware of. For what it's worth, I've already tried the Funai, Samsung, and Sylvania codes on the remote. Thank you!

The TV does have these inputs, and I have used them before. The remote that came with the TV could change to the different inputs. I'm just amazed that there's no way for the TV to switch to an input without the remote, and that the RCA remote doesn't work. I think these were the RCA converters that the US government gave out vouchers for during the analog to digital switch.

SOURCE: Can't access AV Channel on Sony KV-C27TD

If the TV has no RCA inputs, then there is no "AV channel" option for it on any remote, just channel selection.

The purpose of a RCA to SCART converter (aka RF modulator) is to convert one of your channels to an A/V input. They operate (standard) on either channel 3 or 4 as selected by a switch on the converter.

If your converter is unpowered, it's entirely possible that the signal coming out is not good enough to overpower your antenna signal. In this case, you may need a powered unit (such as this one http://www.bestbuy.com/site/olspage.jsp?skuId=5806345&productCategoryId=abcat0107025&type=product&tab=7&id=1067388827858#productdetail) which can actively "shut off" the antenna input when signal is received from the auxiliary device.

I have an esa tv model EF420E. What channel does it need to go on in order to watch DVD's and play on the Xbox?

I assume you have the DVD or XBox connected to the composite video or S-video ports on the EF420E. These can only be accessed with a remote control that has an Input button. The original remote had the Input button near the middle of the remote on the right side of the remote. Pressing it allowed you to toggle between TV, Video 1, and Video 2. If you do not have the original remote or the remote's Input button doesn't work, you need a replacement remote or an universal remote with an Input button. (Many of the cheapest universal remotes don't have this feature button included.) A replacement remote is available from http://remotes.com/store/esa/ef420e.html . They have the original remote and a guaranteed to work alternative. If you choose to get another universal remote, you may need to try multiple codes until the Input button works for your TV. (Try Funai codes, if ESA isn't a listed manufacturer.)

The ESA EF420E was built by Funai. The manual is available from Funai Service: http://www.funai-corp.com/support/manuals.aspx . The direct link to the manual is http://www.funai-corp.com/support/om/EF420E.pdf .

I hope this helps.

AV channel

Hi There. If you're connected to either AV input. (mostly RCA yellow, black and white receptacles), to by Scart, you must be able to switch your TV set to "External". There can be one or more "externals". F.i.
the ones described here: then you must be able to choose External 1 or External 2. There must be a button for this on your remote control.
Sometimes however, it goes by an menu. Choose Setup, or menu in general. There you'll find the way to select which input you want to use. So select the right one, then exit by the OK button.

I have a ESA 427E TV and no remote. I have a Philips dvd player. How do I get it to work with this tv.

Hi there. Connect the player by means of a SCART cable.
When you activate the DVD, the TV recognises this and goes automatically into AV mode. About the scart cable: take a fully wired type. Then pin 8 is at least connected. This status pin makes the TV switch to AV mode. (toggles between 0 and 12V)
In some cases, it's only possible to connect the signals by means of RCA connectors. (red, black, yellow). Then it's more complicated.
You have to use the local "channel" buttons on your TV. Press the (-) button a number of times until you reach channels below 1. That's were AV inputs are active. Good luck.

How do i manually program my channels on older tv without a remote

Nothing you can do without the original remote. One cannot get into the setup pages. Replacement remotes usually don't work on this point either. They are missing this special setup button. In order to watch DVD, VCR, connect them with a SCART cable. When you switch on the player, the TV will detect this and go automaticaly to this input. If connected with RCA plugs, you can choose the input with the program Up/Dwn buttons on the TV set itself, going "lower" than channel 1.

I can't program my tv to regular antenna channels

You can program to regular (analog) antenna channels. To do so you must use the original remote which has a TV/DTV switch in the top right corner of the remote. Choose the appropriate mode for the type of channel you want to see or scan for. Here is a link to the owners manual and a picture of the remote swithc. The info on the signal switching is on pg.13.

There are 5 types of input switching methods that you can come accross for each device. In the Software is says there is certain input switching methods that go with certain manufacturers - This is NOT the case. The following is the list of all the inputs:

1) Toggle (Method 1): You only use one button on your original remote to cycle through a set of inputs.
2) Discrete (Method 2): You have multiple buttons on your original remote where each button goes to a particular input and stays there, no matter how many times you press this button.
3) Menu Toggle (Method 3): A menu pulls up where you can scroll through the set of inputs and select which input you would like.
4) Menu Discrete (Method 4): A menu is pulled up where you use another set of numbers to select which input you would like. (you do not cycle through each input)
5) Multi Method (Method 5): A combination of any of the above. This can also mean that you have multiples of one of the above input switching methods.

Make sure you follow through the prompts for them but the Method 5 - you would have to contact Logitech Directly to get it added!
