What kind of printer? The print string may need to be manually entered. Try going into the properties section of the print screen dialog. You should find a box there to enter the parameters of your print string.
Make sure your printer is set up correctly, check port it's set to be using, is it usb or lpt port. Try switching to a different port and see if it will help you.
If all fails, try deleting the printer and associated devices from device manager. Reconnect the printer, if a new hardware found message dons't come up, try a different USB port. I think, in order to successfuly install a PNP printer, it must first come up a message saying NEW HARDWARE FOUND. Then the rest will follow.
Hi I had exactly the same problem. Here is how I solved it.
I deleted all the previously installed items (although this might not actually be necessary). Then I re-installed using the 'Easy Instal' option from the CD.
The CRUCIAL part is this: - after you have tested your connection to the printer - and it is all fine - another box should appear with a MAC address for the Scan Twain. Highlight the string of numbers and click APPLY.
THEN THE MOST IMPORTANT BIT - look at page 54 in the set-up guide. And follow the instructions which are:
When the printer utility opens click ADD - then go to 'more printers' select the MP620 with the string of numbers after it.This is the one you want NOT the one that appears automatically when you complete the installation.
make this printer your default and away you go! That should work as it has for me and i have been pulling my hair out on this for about 3 weeks!
I think you are using 40/41 or 830/831 cartridge sets. Ink cartridge 41 are now a days found defective, even if it has original company mark. Tell your vendor to replace it with genuine one. Neglect the message "ink volume low". Try to print in gray scale mode avoid colour printing. At least you will be able to get your documents printed.
I did not get any error message but the 6940 printer would not print. Instead "Ready" the printer said "door open". When I deleted printer and plugged the usb cable back in the XP machine found the new hardware, said "Ready" and could print.
Start-> Control Panel-> printers and faxes/printers/devices and printer.
Do right-click on printer icon and select properties.
Click on Advanced tab.
Select the option "print directly to printer" and click on Apply and Ok.
Then try to print , hope it works.
