Can you make copies stand alone in black? If it will make a copy in stand alone then try unistalling the printer and reinstalling the driver.

SOURCE: New black ink, but wont print any black ink

Epson Printers are terribly designed. There is a known issue with them related to clogged ink wells. Below the cartridge the ink dries in the well and makes the printer unusable. I have seen this many many times and will NEVER recommend an epson printer. Most of the time I will have people go out and buy a new printer only because of the fact that you will be paying 50-70/hr labor for someone to FIX/Clean your printer. If you want to try to clean it yourself go ahead. I have done it in the past with varying success because it is more trouble than its worth to remove the inkwells and clean them properly. Buy an HP printer. The difference is that the HP cartridge is what contacts the paper directly. There is no inkwell inbetween to get clogged. When you buy a new HP cartridge you will replace everything between the ink and the paper. Epson is just a poorly designed product. Hack

SOURCE: Epson 9600 suddendly stopped printing yellow

It's NOT a cartridge if this works... I had a similar problem with a 9600 I bought on eBay that had been inoperable over 18 months. Three colors would NOT clear up after multiple power cleanings. Epson support politely solved the issue at no charge on the phone... he had me drop a few drops of warm water on the pad the printhead rests on when not printing. You have to move the printhead to the left to do that by moving up the little lever near the cutter. The pad is easier to reach with a long eye dropper. I used very warm water- not boiling. I replaced the printhead over the warm water pad for an hour. Then I repeated the process and let it be for another 60 minutes. Then I did a nozzle check and what was gummed up yellow, cyan, and magenta nozzles became clear and it's worked fine since. Good luck!

SOURCE: won't print black

I found a solution to the Black printing problem :)
Under Printing Preferences: Set your Media Type to Photo Paper Pro.
We used edible ink cartridges and printed onto icing sugar paper. Same old... Just one day it refused to print black. In order to continue our small business, I degraded the color until I printed gray and not black.

Tonight, I browsed for the problem and came across this :)

Hope it helps you too

One of my cartridges does not work

Start out by running a "nozzle check" in the printer setup screens. If the cyan isn't printing a full pattern, then do a "clean" pass, up to 3 times. If three times doesn't fix the missing color pattern, it's possible that the cart is defective, and isn't flowing ink.

Epson RX620 printer will not print from black cartridge. I have all new cartridges and have run nozzle cleaning 4-5 times. Thanks. Gordon

Make sure the tape is removed from the new cartridges, remove the cartridges, restart the printer, place them back in, you might also want to clean the cartridge contacts if they are dirty.

Try reseting the machine to defaults from the menu.

Try to print something that is pure yellow and pure black. Set it to BEST PHOTO. If you see gaps or missing lines, your print head could be clogged. You will need to use a cleaning solution to remove the clog.

I have a c86 printer. The test on the 4 color ink patterns says nothing. I have cleaned the heads numerous times and have replace all of the ink cartidges twice. Same old situation. I have used Windex to...

You can try soaking the print heads for 24 hours (or more), as follows. Turn the printer on, and as soon as the print head moves out of its parking position, pull the power cord out of the back, or turn the printer off at the mains. You may now carefully move the print head by hand over to the left hand side out of the way. Look inside the print head parking area on the right and you will see a small rubber cup that comes up to cover the print nozzles when the head is parked (to stop it drying out). Use a syringe or dropper to fill this cup with head cleaning fluid or distilled water. DO NOT USE TAP WATER. Carefully push the print head by hand fully
into its parking position so that the cup full of fluid comes up over the print head. Do not turn the printer on at any stage in this process. Leave this for at least 24 hours, then turn the printer on and try a head clean/nozzle check again. If you get any ink on the nozzle check, then there is hope! Repeat the head clean/ nozzle check process 2 or 3 times, but not more. Leave for 24 hours for any air bubbles to disperse, then repeat. If nothing, repeat the soak process once more. If still nothing, post a new comment detailing what you have done and the results.

Black not printing about every 3rd line

You have the classic single nozzle failure it appears. You say you have done a nozzle check. This should reveal that one of the black nozzles is not working i.e. there is a single gap in your nozzle check printout for the black nozzles. Now, this may be due to a blocked nozzle. Try the following print head soak process.

Turn the printer on, and as soon as the print head moves pull the power cord out of the back, or turn the printer off at the mains. Carefully push the print head fully into its parking position so that the cup full of fluid comes up over the print head. Leave this for at least 24 hours, then try a head clean again. If still nothing, report back
