This happened to a client of mine coincidently the morning of the DTV change. Try checking the Menu and see if the Speakers are turned On or Off. They can do this for no reason.

Hi, I have a 42 inch NEC plasma tv I purchased about t years ago, about 6 months ago every now and then the sound would become slightly distorted like a swishing noise shortly after the tv was turned on....

From your description, it is likely that power supply operation is becoming erratic. Because your TV is new, it probably would be worth having it fixed

There are lots of problems. The best thing to do is have it replaced completely while under warranty.

Ihave sound, but no picture.

There is a problem with the video logic board. You could take it to a repair shop or diagnose it yourself with a multi-meter looking for blown up capacitors/burnt parts.

My Vizio LCD TV screen fades to dark. Sound stays on.

I w having this same issue when watching a Blu-Ray disc. I found it to be dependent upon what picture mode the TV was set to. By this I mean certain picture modes would cause the TV to dim during dark scenes of a movie. Changing the picture mode helped a lot.

Sound but no picture

You can try leaving the TV unplugged for 30mins; so the Tv can reset itself.
If that doesn't work, the leading cause of the problem is the power supply module for the screen. Normally it's call the Backlight inverter board. It's the #1 problem with flat panel TVs, because the screen require a lot of energy to power them and the power supply for the screen tends to burn out. I'm sure if you replace the circuit board that powers the screen; it should work again.

Vizio 42" lcd powers up with sound only - no picture

It sounds to me that the unit has a faulty inverter board which could be due to an overheated/bulged capacitor. I would send in a claim on it to the factory if it is still under warranty.

No picture but has sound

With all the listed sets, itis most likely the y-drive(sus) board. The only problem is that this board usually fails when the horz.buffer ic's fail, which is usually part of the plasma display. This was a semi-common problem with this set.The best bet is to find a new set, since the parts alone will exceed the cost of a new one.Pioneer or nec seem to be the most reliable that i have seen.

Vizio GV42L LCD TV screen black when turn TV on first time

If you are using a set top box this might be caused by turnig the box on at the same tie as you turn the tv on or slightly after you turn the tv on.  If you are using compnent or HDMI inputs the set needs to see the signal as it is turned on to know what formt the signal is in.
