Why does a 'no disc' message appear on dvd player even though disc is present?

Could be simply a dusty laser lens. Try a cleaning CD first.

After that, it could be that the laser assembly has low power output. Some decks have the range to increase the laser power, but it's only a temporary fix. The emissions are dying so the laser assembly will need to be replaced sooner of later.

C13

C13 means the deck cannot read the minidisc table of contents for some reason. Since you have no disc in the deck it probably means the laser head is out of allignment or just plain worn out.

I often see MDs being sold for parts, but you need to know the fix is usually cost prohibitve. Most likely the laser assembly in your deck is bad and will cost too much to replace. MD's are more complex than CDs and are optical/magnetic using a laser to read and a laser + magnetic head to record on the discs which are read/write many times.

The deck keeps ejecting the cd after a few seconds of being inserted

Hi, its possibly the laser pick assembly itself but un-sure as would need to be tested. if you havent got your player repaired and you live in the uk then you can try this site. www.audiovisualservices.info

Hope this has helped you.

I need one of my gemini cdj-203 cd decks fixing ! it wont read disks at all is there anywhere i could get a replacement disk drive or lazer unit ? am confidant of fitting it my self if nesseary then take...

Open the unit and look inside at the laser assembly...It should have a number on the assembly near where it plugs in...it may have a "KSS-XXX" number on it( where xxx is numbers). There is an electronics company we deal with that sells all sorts of lasers for cd/dvd unit...find this number and you can go to mcmelectronics.com to see if they carry the laser...it is very easy to install, but you will need to remember that there is an area on the new laser where they short out the laser assembly with a solder bridge( they do this to keep it safe from static discharge). You will need to remove this solder bridge before using. Replacing the laser itself is very simple...usually thewre will be a couple of rails that the laser rides on and one (or both) will come off with a clip. Simply slide the old laser off..plug in the new one...remove the solder bridge(as mentioned above)..and install the new one back on the rails.

LG797T. Used to play DVDs but now we can't use the DVD player to watch movies because we get "Unknown disc, please try again." when it tries to read the disc. Can this be fixed at home (and how) or do I...

The problem with your unit is either a faulty laser or it could also be a faulty mpeg printed circuit board.
The way i would go about solving this issue if the unit is not under warranty is first try to clean the laser.
You can do this removing the case from the unit and if the laser is accessable, use a cue-tip or soft, clean cotton bud to gently wipe the 'eye' of the laser. Make sure to use clean and soft Cotton tips as you do not want to scratch the laser and cause further damage.
After you have done this you can test the unit without replacing the outer case, his will also give you a chance to see if the laser is lighting up to bright, concentrated red dot.
If this isnt happening you need to replace the laser. Nearly every LG product i have dealt with has a yellow or white sticker with a part number on it to make ordering another easy.
If it does not have locatable part number, refer to your local authorised repair agent as they will be able to either repair the unit for you or be able to source and obtain a 'DVD Deck Assembly', which is the entire setup that contains the laser, the drawer that the disc sitson as well as the spindle motors.
Replacing the DVD Deck Assembly is as straight foward as marking everthing you remove with a coloured marker, so you know where it ame from and being careful with any flat ribbon cables you may need to remove near or attached the laser
Good luck!

Not reading, seems to be laser pick-up problem have tried cleaning it sometimes plays for about 1 hour before getting stuck, and after that the laser wont focus

Sounds like the motors that control the angle and focus of the laser are going bad. Either find out what kind of replacement laser assembly would be needed and order it online, or get a new DVD player.

It looks like you might have to replace the laser pick assembly mechanism but not the laser assembly.
This mechanism will have the drive and spin motors on it but not the laser pick assembly.
I would suggest to call the manufacturers and ask them for that particular part. If you DIY, just be careful when you open the device as all the connections are short and could break if not disconnected properly.
Let me know if you require further assistance.
