Is this a design fault or something we can mend?

on top of the dryer unit
is two thermal switches

then go on and off with the temp {and dryer motor speed}
so could be a bad dryer motor
but if it does not heat up to dry
then most machine have 'reset able' thermal switches
ie most machines have two sets
two can be reset for overheat
and two are a fail safe
so check all four switches
to reset the reset able ones
then press the little plastic post in the center of the switch
otherwise with the thermal protectors you need to replace them
after clearing the issue causing the dryer to massively overheat
usually someone has just over loaded the drum
and the drying heater has tripped the thermal cutouts
and not the fail safes
so press the centers of both the thermal cutouts
and try again
good luck
and please post your results

Neither the washer or dryer will turn on - I checked the breaker and that's not the problem. Is there some type of reset button that needs pressed?

Sometimes there is a GFI or ground fault interrupter switch in the circuit. This is a wall plate which has a mini switch between both plug-in holes in the wall plate. Sometimes these are wired in-line where you have 1 master and additional outlets. This means that if the wall plate your washer and dryer are plugged into does not have a little red or black button to push to reset, there may be another wall plate in that room which has it instead.

Sometimes circuit breakers in a fuse panel are marked wrong. You may need to reset a different breaker.

Washer is not agitating in whites and slowly in colors. What and how do we troubleshoot?

1) Verify a circuit breaker isn't tripped

2) Advance the timer control dial slowly 360 degrees-

If the washer starts spinning, then we know the motor and drive belt are fine but that there is something wrong with either the timer control dial or the agitator solenoid. Call in a professional for this.

If the washer doesn't budge, then verify that the drive belt(s) is attached and not broken by removing the back panel. If the belt is broken, replace it. If it is loose, then tighten it by loosening up the bolt holding the motor and moving it on its swingarm (much like a car alternator) until there is a 1/2 to 3/4 inch deflection in the belt.
Some washers use reversing motors. It's possible the motor works on the spin cycle but not on the wash cycle. If so, call a pro.

3) Visually inspect the lid safety switch- Is it loose or cracked? If so, the washer might work intermittently, stopping at different cycles.

4) Check motor and drive belt- Remove the main access panel (usually in the back). Is the motor spinning, but the drive belt isn't? If so, then you have a drive belt problem.

Dryer works but it isn't heating up at all. Is there a re-set button, or can I replace the heating element?

There is no reset button. The heating element is replaceable, but the most likely culprits are a bad thermal fuse or thermal switch. The timer is also a possibility.

MAKE SURE YOU UNPLUG THE DRYER BEFORE DOING THESE TESTS!!!!

If you remove the front panel, on the blower housing you should see a small white thermal fuse that looks like this:

Check for continuity between the two terminals with the wires disconnected. If this checks out you need to check the thermal switches, which will look similar to this:
10_23_2011_9_09_42_pm.jpg
Again, check for continuity between the terminals. If you have more than two terminals, check the large terminals directly opposite each other.

If neither of these is your culprit, feel free to ask me for further instructions. 90% of the time the problem is one of these 2 guys.

Hope this was helpful.

Hi,
You state you had a short in the home. Since the washer is on 110V system, you can try a different outlet and see if the machine works. Although you state that it isn't on the same part of the panel as the washer/dryer, and the dryer works, the dryer is on a different breaker, and it may indeed have had some effect on the panel that hooks to the washer. Try my first option, and let me know how you make out. I believe you'll find that to be the trouble

My Whirlpool LTE5243DQ1 has stopped working, neither the washer or dryer will work or make any kind of noise, I have checked the power cord and the fuse box and both are working properly what else could...

Make sure the dryer isn't full of lint behind the panels; throughout the components of the lint extraction and back in the wiring components of the dryer. Mine stopped working and a thorough cleaning of the above solved the problem. My washer was working, however, before this process. I first checked circuit breakers (no help) and the thorough cleaning did the job. If there is overheating, there is some kind of safety shut off.

How do you replace or tighten a rotary starter switch?

You usually have to open the control panel up. There is usually a star washer and nut that has to be loosened to take off or tightened if the switch is rotating when it shouldn't. If you open it up and there isn't a star washer on it, the switch will work loose over time.

My little boy put my bosch exxcel washer/dryer on to dry for 2hours and then switched it to drain and then turned it off, now its stuck halfway through drain and the door wont open.

i have never worked on this type of washer dryer combo, but just from experience if a washer will not unlock and it keeps trying to drain it is either there is enough water in the unit to trip the pressure switch and the pump keeps trying to drain, means there is a blockage normally in the pump, blocking the pump, or blocking the pressure switch tube. clean these out and unit should work fine. if you arnt tech savvy , call a professional and be prepared to pay.

Splendide 2000 Vented won't work

If you are talking about you have power to the washer/dryer but the machine won't even turn on, won't spin, won't add water, won't turn on dryer, then your situation is like mine right now. Last week with the same situation, we remounted the security switch in the door lock where the little hooks goes into the washer and the machine worked for about a week. Now the same thing is happening and I am looking for a replacement switch.

I definitely need help in getting the washer out of its cabinet and get the cover off in order get to the switch from above.
