You MUST use a special Karaoke CD disk to show lyrics on the screen. Plain music CD's will play music but NOT display the lyrics. Karaoke disks can be expensive... so shop online for Karaoke CD's. Some music stores, including Costco and other warehouses sell some Karaoke disks, but they are usually in a very small section of the displays.
If you are good at repairs.dismantle the Disk drive unit carefully from the main carriage and if the Optical lens reading unit has got a drive P C B ,then desolder the PCB so that you have only the CD mechanism on your table, with a Digital Multimeter check the Ohmic values of both the Spindle motor and Sled motor. the resistance should read between 4.5 ohms and 8ohms any value beyond this means that the drive signal voltage is not enough to move /rotate the disc and optical-pickup in syncronisation.you can get the drive-motors replaced,or replace the CDM assly available off the shelf.
this should solve the problem.hundreds SONY DVD players are running with this remedy.
make sure that the disk dosent have any scratches on it. does a regular cd play in the drive? if so try using a laser disk cleaner. you should do this after every 10 hours of play
Sounds like the drive belt that spins the disk is slipping or broken. You have only one actual cd reader so no matter what slot the disc is in it has to go to the same cd reader drive.
