Remove the dishwasher from the cabinet after disconnecting the water,power and drain. turn upside down to access the nuts that hold the element in. also replace the gaskets on the element or it will leak.

You have to pull out dishwasher to replace the element.The element is easy to replace once you have pulled dishwasher out.This enables you to reach the area that you need to reach.It is common for a element to brake.On a newer dishwasher ,I would say it must have been defective if it just broke in half.Nothing electrical in a dishwasher can cause it to brake.

Based on your description
I'd say the issue actually with the control...unfortunately.
Bosch has had a history of this exact problem I'm about to lay out for you and it is rarely the element...maybe 1%. This is the first thing I'd be looking for if called out to service the unit with the symptoms you've described. **B/S/H/ also issued a recall on certain models between 1999 - 2006 depending on the model & serial number, you can check with yours but you'll need the serial number too. The issue was directly related to the heating circuit (specifically the heat relay on the control) Here`s the link if you want to see for yourself **

As I've alluded to the issue is likely within the electronic timer/control, specifically the heater relay solder joint. ( a faulty flow switch, ntc or heater can also cause this, but not very probable ).

My first suggestion would be contacting Bosch re: the recall or calling in an authorized bosch service tech. if that is an option for you and your budget however, If you feel capable of checking this on your own, there`s a way to visually inspect the control yourself...it really isn't very complicated.

It will require you to remove the control from the unit and then remove the control from it`s plastic housing and look for a burnt solder contact on the printed circuit board.

The culprit will 99% of the times be one of the pins from the heater relay,

...hence the unit sit`s and takes longer & longer to finish because it can`t heat to advance or unless the 2 buttons for "cancel" are pressed...or takes a long time as I mentioned and eventually display's "1" on units with a display and usually very poor cleaning as a result.

You can also run the unit through a regular or econo cycle ...any cycle with the exception of rinse & hold, and with the door panel removed place an ammeter on the gray/black wire it should draw 11 amps during the wash cycle...after it fills and the flow switch indicates it has adequate water to engage the heater.

**My Opinion - if you or someone you know is proficient at soldering, a lot of times it can be remedied by simply repairing the solder...but it has to be done well...or it will not last, although Bosch recommend`s replacing the control and I don`t pretend to speak on there behalf nor do I profess to know better. This is just my experience (it work`s) and my opinion (why buy new if one can repair ?)**

**Please disconnect the power or turn off the breaker before attempting any service to the dishwasher.**


If you do not feel comfortable attempting this service, call a local pro, preferably one familiar with Bosch/Thermador/Gaggenau/Siemens, to service your machine.

There's only 2 wires doesn't matter which goes where. Check the hi-limit (small round disk) push the button with power off. You'll feel Click if it needed resetting

Possible causes;

Incoming Water; Most manufacturers recommend that the water coming into your dishwasher be at least 120 degrees Fahrenheit. If the water is too cold, then your dishes don't clean properly. Or the dishwasher must run longer to heat up the water. Test the water temperature by running the hot water on your faucet for about 2 minutes or until it gets really hot. Place a waterproof thermometer under the water. If the water is too cold, increase the water temperature setting on your water heater.

Thermostat;The thermostat is responsible for regulating the water and drying cycle temperature. If this thermostat isn't working, the heating element at the base of the dishwasher tub may not come on. Test this element by selecting the hottest temperature setting. Run the dishwasher on the shortest cycle. Let the dishwasher run for a few minutes, and open it up. If the dishwasher water is not hot or the drying cycle isn't starting, order a new thermostat from a parts dealer since this component is difficult to fix.

Heating Element/Drying Fan; The heating element heats up the water and air. Access this element by removing the bottom rack. It looks like a long black rod. If any part of this component is broken or corroded, you must order a new one. You usually cannot fix this element. The drying fan is located in the main housing of the dishwasher, and it blows air around your dishes to dry them. Check this part by disconnecting the dishwasher from the power supply and opening up the housing. Examine the fan, and see if any dirt or debris is preventing it from moving. Clean it. If the fan won't turn at all or if the motor is burnt out, order a new fan since it's difficult to repair this part.

If your dishwasher isn't drying your dishes properly, see if you have selected a heated drying cycle. An air drying cycle doesn't completely dry your dishes. Never overload the dishwasher, as this prevents heat from circulating around your dishes, keeping them from drying properly. Plastic and Teflon

Have run dishes thru 2 times an they are still not clean

I have an older dishwasher also and recently my wife also complained about it not cleaning right... so me being the man I am tried in vain to clean the things... Bought new spray arms online and installed them in minutes...now the thing works like new... However I have also found that if the heating element goes bad then that also can mess things up bad... So I would buy new spray arms, and also check out the heating element to make sure it is working... Here is a tip that will help you with the online buying...

more often than not those connections are loose and that jsut cannot be
but check your outlet voltage it should read 220 across the poles anything else it could eb trouble

How to replace a heating element on a Whirlpool dishwasher


remove kick plate, look inside the tube to see where the element goes thru the tube. there are two plastic nuts, turn off power, disconnect wire terminals, remove nuts, pull old element thru inner tube, relace in reverse order.

Does sound like the element is bad, confirm with a multimeter, should see 120v across the element terminals, if voltage is present check for continuity of the heating element with the power off, no continuity equals bad element.

Moyer Diebel Model 201LT heating element failures


Without looking at your defective elements it sound like the chemical eat through the element and produce tiny pits tell your Eco Lab Tech to change to another type of chemical they have many kinds to suit your need. Try that . God Bless.
