Need belt for Everstar 5990 vacuum cleaner

I just replaced the belt on my Everstar VC-9550 and it works fine. I found it at Home Depot for $3.99. The belt is sold under Vac Belts item No. 51007 (Designed to fit Bissell Uprights, Style 7,9,10).

I fixed the very same problem about 15 minutes back. Mine is a 6660-900 but I believe all Hoover windtunnel uprights probably have the same basic design with minor differences. It has nothing to do with the belts.

When the vacuum is used with the hose, you are using it in the vertical locked position. When using on carpet, you step on a release tab/lever on the left corner of the deck. When you do this, a plastic gate opens diverting the vacuum (air flow) from the hose to the deck near the rolling brush area. When this gate gets stuck for some reason, it doesn't open even when you release the tab/lever. What I had to do was to open the cover over the brush roller (4 screws) near the front of the deck. Then when I wiped the bottom portion of the deck under where the hose is connected to the deck, I realised that the plastic there is clear plastic (it was covered with lot of dust before I wiped it). On the side where the hose connects to the deck, right under it is a tubular channel connecting to the brush roller area. Through the clear plastic of this channel, you will see a plastic disk blocking the channel opening. With the power disconnected, release the level for carpet cleaning (so that the deck can move relative to the handle). Now push with a finger on the plastic disk to make it go in and up. In my case some thread like material was caught between the disk edge and the channel/tube making it impossible to open with just the air pressure. After I removed the obstruction, the gate disk started moving freely when the vacuum was set for carpet cleaning. I put everything back together abd tested. Now it works beutifully.

If your model is different, you may find some minor differences but there has to be a vacuum diverter for the two positions. Just make sure it directs the vacuum where it is supposed to go.
