I have a smelly Frigidaire front loader HE washer.
I have a Frigidaire front loader HE washer. It has started to stink and now have learned that HE detergent is food for mold. Used Afresh tablets as directed (sodium carbonate and sodium purcarbonate) 3 serial treatments but the stink remains.
As far as I can tell there is no trap door to access the filter so that it can be cleaned - so my question is:
Re: I have a smelly Frigidaire front loader HE washer.
Front load washers have a front panel that is general held on with 3 screws at the bottom that you can not see. There should be one on each corner and one in the middle once you remove these screws the panel drops down and you will find a white plastic cap that has a hose running to it and from it. If you twist that open with a bucket or something to catch the water that has been left in the machine, you will find that it is a filter that pulls out and it is usually full of stuff. Clean that out and replace and see if it will fill and drain, if not the pump is not working and needs to be replaced.

I put a post on here a few weeks ago related to that subject/Look up my post it was for a frigidaire washer but it will work for you also....If the smell is really bad may have to do it 3 times take a look good luck...................
Washer smells foul...this is often a build up of soap, water, too many chemicals and this has left a residue, and the mildew moves right in and it stinks. This builds up is often on the inside of the outer tank. Many times that this happens is when people use to much soap and then they only do laundry once a week. One good solution to help your odor problem...it works well...in a top loader I recommend 2 cups of cascade and 2 cups of bleach, fill your machine with hot water and let it agitate. At the end of the agitation/wash cycle, let the machine sit and soak for about 10-15 minutes to work on your scum, then close the lid and let it complete. Next load run whites to be safe all bleach is out. This should help. On some really bad odor problems, you may have to remove the inner basket to scrap off the build up from the inside of the outer tank. You may will need special tools to remove the inner basket. Fabric softener is also nasty for building up inside and under the agitator. It is recommended to use half to a quarter of the detergent that the package recommends. Other things that may help, leave the washer lid open between laundry days. Never cover your washing machine with those plastic covers.
have you cleaned the main waste pipe as this surpisingly enough gathers a lot of gunk and in warm weather makes it smell,i say this cus we expeirieced this and i replaced rather than cleaned the waste pipe, worth a try it worked for me,rgds paul
Switch from liquid to powder detergent, no fabric softner (I know...I love it too), clean the gasket and run a cycle with bleach only. Leave the door open whenever possible. This fixed my smelly washer, now if it would only spin!
glisten and affreash is the cleaning agents
besides this only way to get smell out is a complete inner and outter tub job but also try leaving both soap dispenser and door open for the air to dry up and vent the washing machine
Mold and bacteria in your door seal is a symptom of problems deeper inside the unit. All washers - not just Whirlpool, have this problem. The area of worst buildup is always on the inside of the plastic outer tub just above the normal waterline where suds and soiled water splash up and don't get rinsed out. To clean this problem area add 1 or 2 caps of smelly washer cleaner to a full load of laundry. The added bulk of the laundry will raise the water level to include the "splash area". Intermittently pause to soak more extreme cases.
The big door seal is probably the problem. Put on gloves and using a solution of Laundry detregent and hot water and rags, carefully wipe clean all the folds of the seal. It will be icky. Next run a cycle with some detergent and oxyclean or bleach if you have it.
Especially during warm weather, damp clothing left in a front loader mildew slightly very quickly- you can't really see much but you can smell it! So get the clothes in to the dryer immediately. You'll want to relaunder the smelly clothing after you have cleaned the washer.
