Question about IBM ThinkCentre Computers & Internet

1 Answer

I get no startup message on my ibm thinkcentre pc so I can't access the boot manager

I have a blank hard drive, and I want to boot from my dvd drive so I can install Windows XP on the PC. I get an initial screen, with the IBM logo, but no startup message telling me what keys to press to enter setup. I've tried F1 & F2 and they do nothing. If I can't boot from an optical disk, the PC is useless.

SOURCE: How to change the boot option in IBM 6578-PBU desktop

I searched for hours for a solution to this. Here it is:

1). Restart your computer, NOT using ctrl - alt - del
2). Press F1 when guided to.
3). When you get into the config menu, select Start Options, then hit enter twice.

There are all the options you need! Cool, huh?

I think it is more than likely your hard drive is the problem, you get the splash screen and everything is working up to that point which tells me the motherboard is fine.

Look for the boot order options in the setup or pay attention at the actual startup of the laptop when the IBM logo is being displayed. You will notice a message on the screen indicating which button to press to select the "boot order" or "boot options". Press the button (ussually one of the F1 - F12 keys) and you will be presented with a choice of which device to use to boot from.

your bios settings are not saved because of low voltage of CMOS cell.
Change your cmos cell from motherbord.

Getting problem in formatting the IBM PC

check if the cable from the cd rom connected to your ibm pc if its ok , also check the master, slave configuration pins into the back of your cdrom. make sure that theres no conflict between the hard disk and the cdrom. Your cd rom may probably cannot be detected. make sure that it is working first. then install the hard disk. The hard disk must be in primary master and the cd rom must be in primary slave. then try booting it to your cd rom. also, try checking if your windows xp setup disk is bootable, it means that it can boot from cd rom. PM me if you have other experiences after doing what i adviced. Thank You.. heres my email. jmizpahadonai777@gmail.com

Go into setup as it boots up and make sure there is a hard drive recognized by the BIOS. It sounds as if there isn't. If there is, make sure the hard drive is the first boot device.
