Question about HP DeskJet 6988 Printer
Check your printer preferences and make sure the colour icon is tagged or at least the grayscale option is not tagged. Try holding the power button on and pressing the paper feed button once or three times to generate a self test page. If there is still no colour the cartridge is probably faulty.

a 6ya expert can help you resolve that issue over the phone in a minute or two.
best thing about this new service is that you are never placed on hold and get to talk to real repairmen in the US.
the service is completely free and covers almost anything you can think of (from cars to computers, handyman, and even drones).
click here to download the app (for users in the US for now) and get all the help you need.

Same problem with me.
I openede the whole box ( 4 screws ) in the corners. Then I presed the tiny belt on the left side to its socket, cleaned the contacts of the cartridges (56,57) with water and made them dry.
Then I reched the position of the small door which is ment to be opened once you wnat to replace the cartridge.
After this the printer works again.

No, I've never found one. HP wants you to buy those expensive cartridges. However, you can just leave the empty color in place and ignore the message. It will not print at all without a cartridge in it. When you print black, make sure you set it in your printer options to print from the black cartridge only (there are blacks that use some color in them). Or you can get a black only printer. Hope that helps. If so, would you rate this solution? Thanks!

When you click on "Print" and the window comes up, click on "Preferences".
Click on the "Color" tab. There should be an option to print in color or grayscale. Select "Color".

There is a small spring that holds the ink cartridge in the ink holder. You will see it stick out from the right hand side of the ink holder where the ink cartridge slides in. If that spring isn't being held to the ink holder by two plastic tabs, (I.E. the plastic tabs are broken) the printer will never recognize the cartridge. If the printer is still under warranty I would contact HP or an authorized repair center for HP. Both the black and color ink holder has this spring. I know of no way to repair this kind of breakage.

I have an HP Photsmart C4100 printer. I purchased remanufactured ink cartridges (both black and tri-colored) from Vivasmart. The black one works fine, but when I installed the tri-color, I got an error message that says "Print cartridge problem" The following print cartridge has a problem:
Tri-color. And I can't print. The screen on my printer says "Remove and check color cartridge." I have done this several times and it still won't print. I have turned off the power, removed the cartridges, and unplugged the unit, but it still didn't help. Any suggestions?
