Western Digital Hard Drive Help Needed

I recently harvest my Western Digital Scorpio Blue WD2500BEVS Hard Drive my from my old Dell Inspiron 1525. I'm trying to save the photos and videos I have on it. I purchased an Hard Drive Enclosure to store it in and connect to my Gateway Laptop viva USB. Unfortunately, it doesn't seem to be working when I connect everything together. Current Computer: Gateway NV53L23u Windows 8.1 Hard Drive Hoping to Get to Work: Western Digital Scorpio Blue WD2500BEVS Hard Drive Enclosure: Vantec NexStar TX 2.5-Inch SATA to USB 2.0 External Hard Drive Enclosure I was able to assemble the hard drive into the enclosure with no problem. And when I connect it to my laptop, it powers up and I can hear it spin with no problems. No clicking or unusual shaking. However, it doesn't automatically connect and doesn't seem to have a listing in "My Computer". I've checked under the "Device Manager" under Disk Drive and it's not there either. There's no listing for it either under "Disk Management". I know my USB Ports work fine as my other flash drives work on both of them. Does anyone have any ideas what I can do now? Thanks.

Hi, The drive you are connecting to this USB enclosure can be set up as an auto select, master, or slave drive by changing the jumpers. Suggest to check your USB enclosure manual to see what is required for this device as to the configuration of the drive jumpers. Regards, Rongg

Using Western Digital Hard Drive as External Hard Drive Problems

OK! First of all try to disconnect all usb's from neighbouring usb ports as they might be using up too much current resulting in your HD not having enough power to be powered up properly! Also, try to use a different usb port.

If all these fail, please use a voltmeter (if any available...) to check if your devices actually function...

Hope this helps! If not, please report back!

I am using SuperDuper to clone my 160GB MacBook Hard Drive to a 500GB Western Digital Scorpio Blue. My problem is that I cannot determine why neither the SuperDuper program nor the MacBook itself...

The Western Digital Scorpio Blue 500GB hard drive is formatted for PC, not Mac. The simplest way to get your MacBook to recognize this new drive--and therefore copy the files from your old drive--is to plug it in to a PC and format the drive. I was advised to format with FAT 16, as this would be recognized by my MacBook. Fortunately, the process was not that involved, since the Vista-driven PC found the drivers for the WD Scorpio Blue automatically. Once formatted, I safely removed the drive and plugged it into my MacBook via a USB port using a BYTECC Drive Mate. Magically, it now appeared on my MacBook Desktop and was recognized by the cloning software I was using, SuperDuper. Three hours later, the files on my old hard drive were successfully cloned onto the Scorpio Blue--except now I had an additional 364GB of storage space. Swapping out the old drive and replacing it with the new was not a big deal at all--just make sure you have the right screwdriver for the last task--a Torx #6. Mission accomplished.

Need driver for Western Digital Scorpio (WD2500BEVS) hdd. Cannot install Vista on hdd because system does not recognize hdd. Have no idea where to find these drivers.

Hi raider4123,

The Western Digital Scorpio (WD2500BEVS) doesn't come with a driver, but I have an idea that perhaps you may have a pin setting wrong, making the drive not recongizeable. Here is the information on setting the pin on the back'

If that doesn't seem to solve the problem, then I'd run the WD Lifeguard software, that will detect any problems and correct them for you. You can find that software HERE.

Good Luck,

And don't forget to leave a rating.

Thanks

Western digital Scorpio 120 G

Actually there is no solution, the hard drive is bad.
What I ended doing was recording the partition in iso. ( I had a Factory Partition)
Got a new hard drive 160G scorpio unfortunately it does not come with installation disc.
Installed Vista, and with vista created a partition and then installed the contents of the factory partition.
