Question about Garden
I have two black wires jointed together with a female electric connector. the two are joined to three other black wires, one which appears to be grounded with the ground cable from the battery. All said, I can not see where or what to plug the electric fitting into.
Does your mower still work? It is possible this is a connector for an external trickle charger which may be connected while the mower is in longer term storage.

Testimonial: "the hour meter does not come on but everything else works.I keep coming back to the thought that these black wires are a series of wires meant to ground things (?). everything on the dash (even the hour meter) has wires connected to them so that is a dead end"

I usually fix electrical problems by process of elimination. Disconnect the wires attached to generator and touch the battery cable to the battery if it still arcs disconnect the regulator. continue until you find whats pulling current from the battery.

Can't get you a diagram but i can tell you most electical problems on these tractors can be solved by replaceing the key switch/modual or cleaning corrosion from fuse holders.

The wiring harness under the engine shroud that feeds both coils has a diode on each of the wires that connects coils. The diodes keep each coil from grounding each other out so when one diode goes bad it will only run on the cylinder with the strongest coil.Order new harness from Deere, cost less than $30.

One of two possible causes;either the PTO switch is defective or the switch for the reverse peddle is out of adjustment .The only other thing i have seen cause the PTO to shut down is a lack of battery power due to the machine not charging.
