It's as easy as 1 2 3..... wel if you see the back side of modem you will notice a switch inside a tiny hole , just put a pin in hole to press the switch for 30 seconds with modem 's power ON. Now the modem will be restored to factory settings. it' s the time you can change any thing you want included with new password. Remember the 1st time user-name will be Admin and password will be admin .

Good-luck

I have a SBG6580. I am trying to enter the security key but cannot find it on the back of the router...please help

I shall have to assume you in a 'Factory Reset' situation, where you have not signed into the modem, and changed username/password defaults, (new unit, fresh out of the box).
Do not connect to the cable company yet. First, secure the modem.....
From the User Manual, page 9..... You do have a User Manual?
1. Open a browser window, after connecting your computer.

Use a 'wired' connection. Never change security settings, using Wi-Fi connection.....

2. Type in the IP address for the modem 192.168.0.1 in the URL address. That should take you to the modem's password change window.
3. Type in the default Username: admin.
4. Type in the default Password: motorola.
5. Type in your new username in the Password Change Username field.
6. Type in your new password in the New Password field.
7. Re-enter your new password
8. Re-type your new username in the Current Username Password field.
9. Click Apply.
10. Connect the modem to the cable company. You should shortly be able to go online, after the modem has synchronized to the cable company. That usually takes about a minute.

Your question asks for the 'security key'. That generally refers to the Wi-Fi settings. If that is the case, go to the 192.168.0.1 address, sign-in, and click on Wireless. Follow the obvious directions.... Or, post here again....

My device cant connect to wifi.

Wi-Fi connection can create problems for various reasons like incorrect browser settings, errors in cable connection, misplaced passwords or a modem requiring reset.

  • check your web browser and activate the "Work Offline" option. To get this option, go to the "File" tab in your web browser and click the "Work Offline" option to uncheck it.

  • Make sure your Ethernet cable is properly connected with your broadband modem and your wireless router. If this cable is loose at either connection point, you must tighten it before hoping to attain your Wi-Fi signal again.

  • Press the "Reset" button that is located on the front face, top or rear of the broadband modem. This button allows your modem to re-initialize, and this may solve your problem once it boots back up.

  • Enter your web address into your web browser and navigate to the page. A dialog box will appear that asks for a password, so enter the password from the manual.

  • Log in using default username and password. You can now change the password for security purpose.

I Pod Touch connection to the internet won't work...incorrect password

Router passwords are case sensitive, be careful when entering the password. If you can, ask the owner of the router to enter the password for you. If you're using a neighbor's wifi network, you are pretty much out of luck unless they give you the password.

Modem not working

You need to hard reset your modem. By doing that, unplug the modem from the power outlet. Look at the back of the modem, you will see there a small red button. You need to press that button. You need to get a pin or pen to press that reset button. Press the reset button for 5 mins. Monitor the power light. It will change to orange light and it will restart. Once it restarted, you can release the reset button and wait for the lights to come up. Since you did the hard reset. You need to configure the modem with your username and password from your ISP.
You need to access the gui or firmware of your modem. If it ask for username and password. This is the time you need to contact your ISP. They will help you to configure the modem. Once they provided you the username and password ofr your modem. Write it down so you will have a copy and in case it happen again you know what to do. Username and password for the modem is different from the username and password for your internet. You also need to enter the username and password for the internet so you can use the internet. If you get a red light for the internet, that means the username and password is incorrect.
If this didnt work. You need to replace your modem.
