Question about Epson Stylus CX9400 Photo Printer
I have cleaned the nozzles at least 10 times in a row, but it doesn't fix the problem. However, when I select "Best Photo", everything looks OK.

SOURCE: yellow ink does not come out.
Its possible that your printer is fooled to think that the yellow ink level is lower than it really is. not uncommon. Have you changed the different carts on different occasions? You should try resetting the printer. I can tell you that the stylus 500 is reset by turning off, then back on while holding down the Load/Eject button, can't say if it will do the trick on your r300. BTW - epson printers do not like refills or generic - they will clog. I ran across the following cleaning method on the web, it might help you: "Follow this procedure AT YOUR OWN RISK for all I know I may have damaged my printer irreparably, but it does not appear so.) With the power off I manually moved the print heads to the left exposing the pad under the color head. I used several cotton swabs to soak up as much old ink from this pad as I could. I then liberally applied rubbing alcohol to the pad with a cotton swab. About three swabs worth, saturating the pad. I manually returned the print head to *exactly* the same position it was originally in. I turned on the power. This activated the cleaning sequence. (You might also want to press the color head cleaning button to make sure that at least one cleaning cycle runs with the alcohol on the pad.) I turned off the power. Then, while holding down the color cleaning button, I turned the power back on. This activates the self test. By the time the printing of the second sheet of the test was half way completed I had all my colors back."

None of these answers are accurate. I know precisely what your problem is, and you aren't going to like what I have to say. What you are experiencing will happen eventually to every Epson printer and there is nothing you can do about it other than to buy a new printer. I have an Epson Stylus Photo 895 ( a 500 dollar printer in its day), which has the same issue. I am just waiting for my ink cartridges to run out in order to buy a new one.
Endless research on google has turned up that there is no solution to this problem. The issue you are having is with the Epson print head, which uses piezo technology. What that means is that unlike HP or Canon printers which are thermal, piezo uses a small piezoelectrical cell to force ink out of the chamber. It has advantages over thermal in that thermal requires a precise temperature to get ink on the page (what actually happens is that ink is heated, it forms a bubble, and the bubble bursts onto the page, hence the name BubbleJet). Therefore, the ink has to have fairly precise thermal ink properties making it more expensive to manufacture. Also, the ink on a BubbleJet (or HP) is wetter when it hits the page, and since the ink is heat resistant or order to properly form the bubble, the printer needs to incorporate a fast drying technology which consumes more energy. The massive advantage of thermal is that the print head is on the cartridge, not on the printer itself; change your cartridges, get a brand new print head. It makes cartridges more expensive, but reduces problems such as what you are experiencing.
Piezo on the other hand, always shoot ink through the same print head. Once the head become damaged over time, the piezoelectric cell is no longer accurately pushing out the ink, and there is nothing you can do about it. If you are lucky, it is only dried ink in the print head, but I can almost guarantee you that it is not. Dried ink can be cleaned by repeated head cleanings, even manual ones involving rubbing alcohol. However, I know that those pink lines are caused by the deterioration of the cell, and cannot be fixed. If if were only dried ink, you wouldn't be limited to just pink lines on the page, you would see other colours. If the cell is not doing its job, the lines are always pink (often called magenta when you google this problem). The solution is to acquire a new print head. Unfortunately, the cost of replacing an Epson print head is IDENTICAL to the cost of a new Epson printer.
So basically you have no choice, you need to buy a new printer. Were I you, I would purchase a new thermal inkjet printer so that you get a new print head with every cartridge. Look around before you buy to find out exactly how much the cartridges will cost, and then you will know which brand to buy. Although piezo *can* make for a cheaper printer at the outset, Epson simply charged what HP and Canon do for their replacement cartridges because that is what people are used to paying, but you really do get more in a thermal inkjet catridge.

Don't use nozzles clean function, besides ink consuming it can cause damages that cannot be fixed: black lines on the back side of the page that will be permanent. Instead put two photo paper together (2x260 gr) and push the two papers together into the printer while printing a motive including many colors. Do so a couple of times and the clogg usually disappears. Good luck! jonk

This "banding" is caused by uneven ink flow through the print nozzles.
Have you tried a cleaning cycle? If not, try one (right click the little printer icon in the bottom right corner of the screen and select head clean). Now run a nozzle check (right click the little printer icon in the bottom right corner of the screen and select nozzle check). Is there any sign of ink on the paper. Try up to three
cleaning cycles. If ink is now flowing, but not yet perfectly, don't carry out any more cleaning cycles. Just leave the printer for 24 hours (to allow any air in the print head to disperse). Then repeat the cleaning cycle/wait process. It may take a while to restore a perfect nozzle check print.
If you have already done lots of head cleans with no perfect results, are you sure you have good ink cartridges properly installed? The printer determines the amount of ink left in the cartridge by counting the number of ink "shots" when printing, head cleaning etc. This information is stored in the "chip" on the cartridge. Thus, it is not an actual measurement of the ink left, but an estimate calculated by subtracting the total shots from the original full ink quantity. This estimate can sometimes be grossly in error, usually due to a cartridge replacement not being carried out correctly. To eliminate this possibility, buy a new set of compatibles on E-Bay - they're very cheap. You can always re-use the old ones later if it turns out they DO have ink in them.
If none of the above works, then you may have blocked print head nozzles. You can try soaking the print heads for 24 hours (or more), as follows. Turn the printer on, and as soon as the print head moves out of its parking position, pull the power cord out of the back, or turn the printer off at the mains. You may now carefully move the print head by hand over to the left hand side out of the way. Look inside the print head parking area on the right and you will see a small rubber cup that comes up to cover the print nozzles when the head is parked (to stop it drying out). Use a syringe or dropper to fill this cup with head cleaning fluid or distilled water. DO NOT USE TAP WATER. Carefully push the print head by hand fully into its parking position so that the cup full of fluid
comes up over the print head. Do not turn the printer on at any stage in this process. Leave this for at least 24 hours, then turn the printer on and try a head clean/nozzle check again. If you get any black ink on the nozzle check, then there is hope! Repeat the process until you get a full black nozzle check. If nothing, repeat the process once more.
If still nothing, post a new comment detailing what you have done and the results.

open printing preferences and click on maintenance. Run the print head alignment utility. Sometimes this will remove the horizontal banding. I had this same problem and had to uninstall the printer and reinstall just like it was new, running the alignment feature before it was corrected. Worked ok for a few days then started again. I assumed that the printhead is bad. To costly to repair and bought a new printer.
