Question about Magic Chef Ovens

1 Answer

Pressure regulator gas

This is for a Magic Chef oven/range in a 2004 Prowler Lynx. The model number is CLY1610ADP. Stove and oven work fine, but there has been a gas smell that was intermittent and now it is all the time with the unit. Not enough to make the LP gas detector go off, but definitely enough to make me shut off the propane completely. The only part I can see from looking myself that I could think would cause this is the regulator kit. Any help in determining issue is greatly appreciated.

SOURCE: Oven burner flame is low

0000000.jpgOn top of that safety valve is a nut. Get a good fitting wrench. Turn on the oven and use that good fitting wrench on that nut. Turn it counterclockwise till the flame comes up about midways of the flame spreader. Don't get the flames too high. Midways of the spreader now. LOL

SOURCE: Magic Chef Oven, Model 33468VVV, 1995, I smell gas in oven

The problem is usually the igniter not reaching the correct amp draw .When the igniter does not reach the correct amp draw it may allow the gas valve to partially open or not open at all. The igniters are inexpensive and easy to replace. There is a video at www.appliancehelponline.com/servicemanual.html this will walk you thru the correct procedure for performing this test. It may be a different model but the testing will be the same. You can also enter your model # for diagrams and illustrations of your specific model. Not all models are available. All parts come with installation instructions.

Replaced bad thermostat on Magic Chef model 9112xpb. Ignitor now glows orange but oven still won't start. Does gas valve on bottom of oven need to point up or sideways to start?

Gas shut off valve handles are perpendicular to the gasline when closed and parallel when opened. If you are referring to the appliance regulator behind the stove, the lever should face up or out, as opposed to sideways. This particular lever only shuts gas down to the oven and not the stovetop.

Crank down and flip models require tweeking. have you adjusted the regulator accordingly?
You must remove and flip the regulator nut to get the gas pressure from 3.5 to 10.

Magic chef oven/stove top range not staying hot

Hi, It very well could be the ignitor. Sometimes they work at first and then will not open the gas valve later in cycle. You can set the oven to heat and watch the ignitor. If it glows and the gas will not ignite in 30 to 45 seconds, the igniter is getting weak. I jope this helps.
Please let me know if I can assit you further.

Propane not getting to oven... stove top works fine..

The pilot light must be lit and stay lit before you will have any propane coming into the oven. This is a safety feature.
