HELP! Surround speakers not working with 5.1 material.

The rear surround speakers are not playing when watching TV or PS4 Blu-Ray 5.1 sources. I have followed all the User Manual troubleshooting tips without success including: using analog, coax, and digital cables from sources, changing input source to AUTO, PCM and DTS, setting up speakers per instruction, etc.. I swapped rears with fronts and both sets work on front channel which eliminates speakers. Noteworthy is fact that neither L or R Surround speaker work when using the receiver sound level test; only the front, center and sub work. I have changed all Listening modes, since manual states rears will not work in Stereo and Mono, again, with no success. Could it be a fault with rear channel? I am only outputting TV sound via Video3 (Optical 2), not the video, because the PS4 is connected directly to the TV for video. I did set the PS4 to use HDMI for sound and my Sony XBR to output using Audio System. At my wits end! Help

Rca model rtd3266 won't produce aux audio through the tv even though we have hooked up the red and white cables. It only playes the surround sound when you watch the dvd.

I believe you have misunderstood something. The audio output from your TV is stereo. Your RCA system produces surround output from your TVs stereo input.

hi,
Is there is any optical digital output in your satelite HD. Then connect that optical digital output of satelite HD to the optical digital input of your surround system (blue ray player) using an optical cable.
Then press the function button on the remote of surround sound system (blue ray player) and select D.IN. (D.IN means DIGITAL IN). You will get the audio through the surround sound system. if you need any more assistance fell free to contact me through fixya.
ok

You already said the Blu-Ray is working, so let's assume it's ok. Other source(s) don't produce surround so that leaves it (them) orthe one place they all come together - your receiver / theater system. Multichannel sound will only come from properly connected digital sources. Is that the case?

Rear Speakers dont work

THe rear speakers are usually for the surround sound experience. What kind of movies do you watch? Usually the action movies have a lot of surround sound, calm movies not so much. And for the music, the same thing applies. Atleast for my system.

Hope this helps.

Reciever only allows 2 channels(speakers) at a time.

If the amplifier is not receiving a surround sound signal, you will get nothing from the rear speakers and probably nothing from the front centre. Play a dvd in dolby surround and it will work.

The indicator is telling you you have a 2-channel input. You may have the Blu-Ray connected wrong. Or the source is only Stereo. I need more details to assess that.

The sound coming from all speakers is normal if you have any surround mode selected, regardless of the characteristics of the source

I imagine if you experiment you might find all speakers playing for any number of 2-channel sources, not just Blu-Ray. Besides actual Pro Logic decoding, the various surround modes can provide some interesting effects on non Dolby Surround material.

I recommend that you try them all on various recordings and you may find one or another of them preferable over vanilla stereo. I find that any given artist or music type, even within a given CD, may sound 'better' with different surround settings.

Are you sure you're using a source material that is surround sound? Most TV broadcasts are still only stereo.

Also with surround programmes, the rear speakers are only used for the surround effect so will only make sound when the sound source is supposed to be behind you.
