SOURCE: Need replacement microwave to fit existing trim kit

Finally built up the courage to call GE Appliance number and weave my way through the phone menu system. Pressed the right menu option (sales) to speak to someone about trim kits. Found out that the trim kit model number is JX1527MWW. Then called back to select a different menu option (other) and learned from someone else that since the trim kit model is more than 1-2 years old, there's a slim-to-none chance any new microwave models will work with it, and even if there was they couldn't easily cross-reference against a model that old to tell me which one (or something to that effect). So I hit a dead end. Only option for me at this point is to buy a new microwave with new trim kit.

(Personal note: I think the trim kit business is a racket, in bed with the microwave manufacturers. Why else would there be no standard dimensions for microwaves by now--like refrigerators have--and why is it a few pieces of sheet metal cost over $150? Pretty convenient that every microwave model needs its own trim kit model!)

GE Microwave Model JEM25WY001 dead

It may have blown the line fuse, the TCO (thermal cutout) above the magnetron, or the TCO on top of the oven cavity.
There should be a "mini-manual" (tech sheet) hidden inside the unit behind the control panel or hidden on the left side behind the grille, which is very helpful when troubleshooting, testing, and locating components.
There's a helpful exploded view here, and you can order parts from the Pros here.
Here is a video showing how to remove a typical over the range control panel assembly in under 5 minutes.
Accessing some components (especially the oven cavity thermostat) for testing and possible replacement will require you to remove the oven from the wall and take off the outer cover.

If so, the installation instructions are very handy, and it's best to have two people since the microwave can be heavy and awkward.

Jennair combo micro wall oven 30" replace microwave?

When a microwave is dead, the most common causes are a blown fuse, or a blown thermostat / thermal cutout / TCO on the magnetron or on top of the oven cavity.

You can find helpful exploded view diagrams and order parts by entering your full model number here.

I would go with it. The 1/8" on each side you are worried about can probably be trimmed if need be. The manufacturer is usually very precise on an measurements they publish.

Came in today; our spacemaker ge microwave xl 1400 would not light up, turn table would not turn, no date or time or anything registering on panel

  1. Check the circuit breaker.
  2. Verify that the outlet to oven has power (plug in a trouble light or other small device).
  3. If you have power there, take the oven off the wall, remove the top cover and check whether you have power at the controller board. (If you don't know where to put the voltmeter leads, take the oven to an appliance tech to perform these tests.) If you power at the low voltage transformer, the board has failed.
  4. If not, check the three thermal cutouts and the fuse. One thermal cutout is located on top of the oven, most likely under the light bulb cover. The next is fastened to the magnetron, and the last is down near the bottom just behind the controller module. If any of these is open, the oven will not work. If the fuse is blown, look for a short circuit before replacing it (check the varistor on the controller board first). The varistor is listed as a separate repair part; don't get soaked for a controller board if this is bad.

Microwave does not start. receptacle is live. is there an internal fuse for this microwave that may have blown

If you can program the time but it will not start cooking when you press the "Start" pad, you probably have a bad door switch or door switch mount.

If the oven has no display and will not respond, it is "dead" ands it may have a blown fuse or a blown magnetron thermal cutout (TCO) or thermostat or a blown oven cavity TCO or thermostat.

Black, Builtin, trim kit, metal box behind trim kit around oven for ventiliation

I would suspect a shorted high voltage rectifier diode or defective magnetron, in that order.

The diode is a pretty easy fix, and the magnetron is more involved, but not too bad for a DIYer.

You can find helpful exploded view diagrams and order parts by entering your full model number here.

Thereshould also be a "mini-manual" (tech sheet) hidden inside the unit behind thecontrol panel or hidden on the left side behind the grille, which isvery helpful when troubleshooting, testing, and locating components.

Here are some links you or someone you know can use (in order given) for test help, but read the safety warnings first:

http://www.gallawa.com/microtech/diode.html (if it is NOT shorted, it's probably fine)
http://www.gallawa.com/microtech/mag_test.html (continuity can be good even though it is bad!)

If you have to replace the magnetron, you'll need to take the oven down from the wall.

If you or a friend decide to work on it, we have *critical* safety, disassembly, and troubleshooting info (as well as a text file which helps in diagnosing and repairing door switch problems) at our site, which is linked at our listing here on FixYa: http://tinyurl.com/yzjozk Inside the oven, in the control panel frame behind the door open button is a "mini-manual" - a tech sheet that helps in troubleshooting & locating components. You likely have a blown thermal cutout mounted above the magnetron, or possibly a blown fuse.
