I understand that you want to know how to remove the cover on your Frigidaire microwave, model# FGMV205K. There are two different covers that you are able to remove for access to two different light bulbs.
If you are trying to change the Microwave Oven Light for inside your microwave:
1)To replace light bulb, first disconnect power to your microwave oven at the circuit breaker panel or by unplugging it.
2)Remove the louver by removing the three Hood Louver Screws.
3)Push in the upper tabs and pull the louver away from your appliance.
4)Remove the light bulb and replace with a new 20 watt light bulb. DO NOT USE BULB LARGER THAN 20 WATTS.
5)Close the Oven Light Cover by carefully pushing into place. Push the louver back into place (engaging both the bottom and top tabs) and change to hood Louver Screws.
If you are trying to change the light bulbs underneath your Microwave:
1)To replace light bulbs, first disconnect power to your microwave oven at the circuit breaker panel or by unplugging it.
2)To open Light Cover, remove the screw on the light cover.
3)Replace the light bulbs with new 20 watt light bulbs. DO NOT USE BULBS LARGER THAN 20 WATTS.
4)Close the Light Cover and secure with screw removed at step 2.
If further troubleshooting is needed, I ask that you please let me know the error codes displayed on your appliance. Hope this is helpful.
I would say you have blown a fuse on the unit. As you now have found out, that's one of the reasons why you unplug any electrical equipment before working on them. You will have to take the outer cover off the microwave and locate where the fuse is. It is most likely on the back of the main PCB or possibly inside a plastic sleeve or mounting near where the cord enters the unit.
I am assuming you changed the bulb. Anything that sits over a stove will become mucked up with grease and cooking oils etc. That can prevent the bulb from seating in the socket, the switch from making contact, etc. Unplug the unit, remove the bulb and get int here to clean the grease out. That should fix it.
GE uses a bulb that includes two flat pins. It looks like a bulb and removable socket, but it isn't. Just a way to cost you more. The bulb is removable from the top where it's mounted, and removed from the hole that it sticks vertically down thru. 1. You have to remove the unit cover to get to the bulb. 2. You have to unplug the connector to remove the bulb. 3. You have to squeeze two plastic pins, to extract the bulb from its location. This is not a common bulb; good luck finding one.
Good luck! I am trying to change mine and it is NOT an edison screw bulb. It is a bulb glued into a larger plastic base, with two spade lugs coming out of it. If you (and I) can find the bulb, it is a relatively easy fix! You need to power down the unit and let it sit around for a few hours to let the capacitor drain. Even then do not poke around near the capacitor, as you might get a shock even if the unit is unplugged. The capacitor is an oblong round metal can near the bottom back of the unit.
To get the back special torx screws off, I needed to use a vise grip. Anyone know the bulb part number?
Advantum 120 over range microwave - with burned out interior bulb: Remove top fron grill cover -- held byu 2-3 screws on top. Remove sheetmetal plate that lies parallel to top of unit, just to the right of the square plastic porting on the far left of the unit. The sheet metal plating is about 12" wide and 8" deep and is shaped like 2 overlapping rectangles. It is held in place by 1-2 screws. (I don't recall if you needed to remove other plastic grid on right front -- I did, but I was still searching for the bulb). The bulb is located about 5" from the left side and about 2" in from the front, covered by a small sheetmetal box. THe bulb looks like the little halogen bulbs used in low-voltage outdoor lights - but is slightly larger - DO NOT REPLACE WITH THAT KIND OF BULB). Remove the one screw holding the box, unplug the bulb and find a replacement. Can't tell you where to get a bulb -- that's what I'm doing next. Good luck.
MOST MICROWAVE OVENS TODAY HAVE TO HAVE THE OUTER SLEEVE REMOVED TO ACCESS THE SIGHT BULB.
THIS IS DONE BY REMOVING ALL THE SCREWS ALONG THE BACK EDGE OF THE SLEEVE AND PULLING UP AND
BACKWARDS ON THE SLEEVE. SOMETIMES THE BULB ISN'T LOOSE BUT THE FILAMENT IS DANGLING IN THE LIGHT BULB AND OCCASIONALLY MAKES CONTACT WHEN IT IS BUMPED. THE BULB WOULD NEED REPLACED.
most microwave ovens built in the last 20 years do not have an
access panel to the light bulb. you must remove the screws on the back of the microwave that hold the outer sleeve in place.
Then pull upward and backward on the sleeve to disengage it
from the front lip of the chassis. the light bulb should be close to the front of the microwave behind the control panel. Some lights
are not unscrewable from the socket, but the socket and bulb
come as an assembly.
