SOURCE: Dell Latitude D620 Full System Recovery?

It's easy to miss the point at which you hit Ctrl + F11. You need to hit Ctrl + F11 at the point you see the blue bar across the top of the screen, it will display www.dell.com. If this is still not working you can use the XP operating system CD to reinstall XP and the Dell drivers CD to reinstall the sound, video, network and other drivers. If Dell didn't send you the operating system CD, you should contact them.

How to cope with Laptop C partition low disk space error problem

Hi Belinda
Basically it is a good idea to use the "C" drive for the Operating System (Windows) and minimal 3rd party software.
Move all Movies, Music & Photo's to another drive. The "D" drive.
This can be internal or external depending on the computer.
An external 1 to 4 Terrabyte drive on the USB port is really useful actually... it is really mandatory these days to perform backups & keep the big files on. Like Movies & Music & Photos.
To give you long lasting capabilities into the future I would suggest something like this Dock Drive
http://eshop.macsales.com/shop/NewerTech/Voyager/Hard_Drive_Dock
You get to choose which drive to plug in and they can be stored securely (in tinfoil antistatic) when not in use.
The dock will allow you to keep a bootable emergency drive on one drive and a backup of all your movies on another and even a copy of all your music on another. This is my preferred method as it's future proof. if your computer gets broken or stolen then you still have a copy of everything. I prefer to use the 3.5 inch (larger) drive as they have faster access & backup capability. The 2.5" drives are great for portability & run on 5volts only so are not as fast. The dock can take either.
Hope this Helps

Local Disk C running out of space but the D drive has plenty of space. How to make the D drive the primary partition? Os in on C drive windows Vista.

Do you run Disk Cleanup regularly (once a month)? This will free up disk space on the C drive, it remover old temporary files and compressed files as well as other files.
You can also move and save your data files to the D drive, so the C drive has only the operating system files and program files.

How do you transfer photos from computer to blank CD/DVD's ? Need to make more space on computer Hard Drive ? How many or much can 1 CD/DVD store ? Need to Know. Thanx. M.K. Bey

1 cd can hold 700mb of photos.
1 dvd. 4700 mb of photos.
depending on camera and the resolution of the pictures you are looking at about 350 pictures for a cd and 2500 for a dvd.

Hi, i can't shrink or expand or close my windows and when a dialogue box pops up the "yes, no, cancel cannot be seen. i'm running vista 32 bit can u help me?

Try pressing the alt key with the space key
This should open the system menu for the current program.
It has options like Minimise Maximise and Close.

It sounds like you some how have opened a window that is way biger than your screen can display so the controls you want are off the screen.

You might want to check your screen resolution.

Hope this helps

My old, cheap Dell will not come on, screen is black

The memory it is referring to is RAM, not hard drive space. You may have a bad memory module; one easy way to tell is, if your computer comes up at all, right click My Computer and select properties, it should display on this screen how much memory the computer thinks it has. You may need to get some new RAM.

I have an ACER ASPIRE 5720 laptop - it is less than a year old and it is showing the memory is full - the memory is meant to be 32 GB and from what I can see from the programme menus there is less than 4...

Hi j0shuatsb,
Acer like many other manufactures seem to design their system to fail or have issues just after their 1 year warranty is up. Like other Microsoft windows operating systems, when you receive an error message that you're memory is full. This does not mean you have run out of RAM = memory. You're notebook can only run a max of 4GB of memory. The error message refers to hard disk drive space. Depending on you're operating system, windows will lock out so much drive space so it can move about. All notebooks also have a hidden partition which holds drivers & programs used in combination for running the system restore.
This hidden partition can range in size from 2GB up to 4GB.
This also lessens you're total hard disk drive space. Bottom line is there is nothing wrong with your memory.
What you need is a larger hard disk drive. Notice the Technical specifications from this link:
http://www.acer.co.uk/public/page9.do?sp=page4&dau34.oid=24360&UserCtxParam=0&GroupCtxParam=0&dctx1=17&CountryISOCtxParam=UK&LanguageISOCtxParam=en&ctx3=-1&ctx4=United+Kingdom&crc=512458878
It does not show what size you're SATA hard disk drive is.
Since you are still in warranty, now would be the time to increase you're drive size. On another note, if you're HDD is the standard 160GB than there is an issue with your current HDD.
Please run a full system virus scan.
Suggest you back up all you're personal data on to a DVD & run you're system restore CD including a format to help you regain you're HDD full space. A temporary fix would be to uninstall any non needed programs through Add/Remove programs. This should free up some space. Many Acer programs you do not use at all or need should be the first to go.
