You may have a problem with your lens, maybe a decentered lens. Make sure there are no obstructions in the way of the lens. It may need to be serviced.

Camera will not operate when power is turned on

from sony support site "The error TURN THE POWER OFF AND ON AGAIN will be displayed if the lens assembly is not operating correctly. Ensure fresh batteries are installed or make sure they are fully charged and then try turning the camera off and then back on. NOTE: If the error message still occurs, service may be required." I think you can pass on checking the battery. obviously your lens mechanism is somewhat busted (usually this happens when a camera is on and put in the pocket then the zoom button gets pushed and the lens tried to move with no avail, or sand that got into the mechanisem), and you'll have to get it repaired. However, If you are handy or daring :-) you can often clear the problem by removing the lens assembly and using compressed air on it to blow any grit out of the way. To dismantle the actual assembly can be really asking for trouble as they can be mongrels to put back together. But if you're methodical and have a good memory you may be lucky. I'm sorry there's nothing I can tell you which is DIY. Use your warranty if valid. Good luck D.

I have a Canon PowerShot SD790 IS. The camera turns on, the lens comes out and that's it. Then it shuts down and the code E16 shows up. Can't seem to find anything on that code that tells me what the...

The error message indicates an error that involves the lens unit or lens cover.
This error may appear where the lens is prevented from properly extending or retracting such as, for example, when pressure is applied to the lens or the area surrounding the lens while handling the camera. The error may also be displayed if the lens unit/camera has been subjected to an external shock, or if liquid, sand or dirt enters the camera.
This issue may also happens if the Battery is not fully charged.

In this case, charge the battery completely then try to turn on the camera. Furthermore, try resetting the Camera to the original factory settings. You may also try hitting the lens gently against your palm after turning it ON.

If the issue persists then service is required.

My DMC-FS5 keeps telling me to turn camera off then on again, what can I do? I have done that and it wont let me take pictures or look at my photos. It just keeps saying it over and over.

Generally the camera should come on after your turn it on and off again. The error you are getting is because of either System Error or Internal Memory Error.

I think you might need to take it to Sony. But Before that, I suggest that you take out its memory stick, the battery etc and keep the camera like that for about 15 minutes. Then only reinsert the battery (fully Charged) and try to power on. I if you are lucky, you might not need to go to Sony Best of luck and thanks for using FixYa!

Get the kit changed. That should not happen right out of the box, but make double sure the next time around, you charge the battery completely before using it the first time. Not doing this can cause problems.
