You should move your surround set a little further so it doesn't interfere with the subwoofer. It may say .5 but the surround set may have a magnetic field that requires it to be further away. Just move it further and you should be good.

if fuses look bad they are,! blown up.
if they look good, they can in fact, be bad. hmmmmmmmm....
use any ohm meter (any,DMM/DVM) and select ohms low
0 ohms is good.
infinity is bad fuse. every time,

ohms is the value of resistance, all full meters have this check
0 can be 0 to 1ohm if meter has auto zero , 0 will be 0 (RTM )
if not, most read about 0.3 ohms or the meter lead contract restance which we ignore on cheap meters)

How to use

Voltage testers and volt meters are two different things. A meter will provide a an indication of the exact voltage and type AC or DC. A tester on the other hand simply provides an indication of presence of power with little to no indication of how much or type.

AC power is what is provided by most power companies in the world. DC is a type of power provided by batteries and DC power supplies. If your tester or meter has provisions to check for AC and DC, you should check for BOTH. If AC power is present and you are have set your meter to test for DC power, your meter will indicate 0 volts. You can see this can be a dangerous condition. Most simple testers will not care if AC or DC power is being tested and the types that use neon lamps will usually glow differently for AC and DC power.

When setting up for testing voltage, you must test across the power source (or in "parallel") or load (such as a light bulb), as opposed to "in series" with the power source. Across would be from the + to - post of a battery, into the slots of an outlet, etc. "In series" is when the tester would be completing a circuit - such as testing across an open switch.

First, check the meter's operation by testing a known good power source by following the next steps. Set the meter for the type power to be tested. Choose AC if unsure. Next, set the meter for the highest voltage range supported. Make sure this range is higher than the expected voltage, otherwise damage to the meter may result. Connect the probes to the power source. Read the meter. If the meter moved only slightly, adjust the range of the meter to the next lower value. You can keep adjusting downward as needed to get the most precise reading possible - but do not set the range to a value less than the voltage present. A 0-300 volt scale is the lowest to measure a 240 volt outlet - switching to a 0 - 150 volt scale will damage the meter. The 0 - 150 volt scale would be fine for measuring 120 volt outlets.

If the meter did not move, change the type from AC to DC. and repeat. If it still does not work, the meter is not working correctly (if testing a know good source) or there is no power present (if the meter worked on a known good power source).

Good luck!

Pioneer home theather subwoofer powers up but I get no sound. I checked the speaker cone, it looks perfect. This is an older sub woofer so I don't mind taking it apart to learn how to fix it if possible. ...

Look for the biggest semi-conductor on the PC board, that will be the power amp that does all the work, or perhaps in your case not! If it is an IC replace it! You can test transistors with an Ohm meter. Look for shorts in the case of those.

How to unseize a speaker

Does it smell really bad, if so you probibly over powered the voicecoil wire and the insulation melted off and shorted. You should check the resistance first to see if it's fryed, if your sub is 4 ohm that's what you should read with a multi-meter, if it's close to 0 or 1 than you won't be able to fix it

Have you tried powering the phone off and removing the battery? Cleaning the charging contacts on the phone and the charger? Inspect the charging port to make sure there wasn't any damage from the fall. Then restart the device.

Hope that helps.

My 2000 watt nitro amp just stopped working need help

Think about anything out of the ordinary that may have happened the day (or day before) it quit.
  • Was work done to your system?
  • Did someone mess with your system?
  • Smell anything odd?
  • Especially loud?
  • Did it quit mid-song or did it work yesterday and not today?
Assuming nothing special, here are some diagnostics you can perform. At the very least, they will help tell you what the problem isn't, First....

Eliminate power supply problems.

Use a meter to make sure you have power to your amps +12v terminal. A meter is preferred over a test light to confirm a full +12 volts.

Make sure the ground terminal is grounded. A meter with a continuity test option is best for this.

If either of these fail, trace the wires to find the fault. Large amps like yours normally have dedicated power cables. These cables usually have an additional in line fuse close to the battery. Check it.

If they pass, double check the amp fuse.
Pull the wire (usually blue) from the 'remote' terminal on the amp.
Then try jumping the +12v line to the remote terminal.

If it still doesn't power up, check for signal shorts.
Turn the gains down low.
Pull the input lines and try the +12v to remote jump again.

Next pull the speaker wires.
Your amp should now have only two wires and a jumper attached to it. Try the same jump.

If it still fails, the problem is in the amp itself and (I'm sorry to say) leaning toward the serious.

Hope this helped
