Question about Maytag 24 in. MDBS561A Built-in Dishwasher

1 Answer

This washer has started not draining all the water at the end of its cycle. Sometimes I don't think it finishes it's cycle before it stops. Repair guys have come and cleaned it out and said it's the buildup of calcium or lime, and told us to us vinegar to help break it down. This hasn't really solved the problem! Could circulating pump, capacitor, or control board be bad?

Could be that the discharge pump has a buildup of calcium inside and causing water not to flow as it should

SOURCE: Dishwasher loud in beginning cycle and drains early

sounds like you have 2 problems however generally speaking (most makes) of dishwashers go into drain mode when there is a fault elsewhere, however is this set up properly, is the waste pipe end high enough to allow the water to actually fill up (only about 30cms of water aprox)so it doesn't flow straight though to the waste. the noise could just be an empty pump, it runs dry after a while, and makes a screeching noise eventually? check installation pictures to see if its set up right, you may have also a leak somewhere check all other connections and pipes

SOURCE: Fills with water, sounds like it starts to pump water then stops, then start again

you have a wash pump problem. can be 1 of 3 things. most likely something is caught in the pump impelor if not the wash pump motor may be faulty or ceized or it could be the capacitor for the wash pump motor is faulty. you can try removing the wash pump yourself and check the impelor if it spins freely then you will have a motor problem.
hope this helped

SOURCE: Calcium buildup in dishwasher-receiving low ampage

You at least seem to have a hard water symptom. But these two symptoms may not be related. Try putting an ice cream pail (1 gallon) that is half water and half vinegar -pour it into the bottom of your washer and run it through cycle. Do it 2 or three more times, if you notice improvement, then it was a calcium build-up. Stronger acid solutions or Lime-Away type cleaners should not be used as they can etch or destroy the internals. Vinegar will not harm you, your dishes, and will be a little gentler on your equipment. Try that first - see if your "white residue" subsides and maybe a chunk of something will pop out of your pump too. If you don't have a water softener, you may consider one. While this may not solve all your problems, it is something you can do that will not cause any real harm, and so it is a "safe" answer.

Hot water stops filling too soon.

Fill setting has to be adjusted and the belt is slipping on the spin cycle and not generating enough centrifugal force to get the water out.

I believe you have a drain pump issue. Try removing the bottom front panel on your washer ,three small screws right at floor level. the drain pump will be right their in the middle up front.. lay down some towels or a pie pan to catch some water, remove the cap on the end of the drain pump. Clean out the cap/strainer and remove any visible gook in the pump, line up the marks on the cap and pump and reinstall..hopefully it was full of junk and your ok now, sometimes though the impeller in the pump gets damaged and it will run but not pump even if you have to replace its an easy fix Good Luck

First check your washer plug to see if the connections are tightly screwed. Next check your filter if you haven't for long.

Remove the 3 screws at the bottom of the front panel under the washer door. Your filter door will be light brown. If you find a hose there it is to drain out excess water (water that could not be drained by your pump) After you hv drained unscrew the cap and remove all the junk inside. Have a large plastic bag to catch junk and water. Refit carefully after cleaning out. If not solved, something shd be blocking your pump, check this out

I'd love to say yes! The machine is stopping because it will not drain. This is what the nd code means. Therefore, it will not rinse (add more water) or spin because the water level is already too high and to try to "spin it out" would put too much pressure on the machine with that much water in it. Drain out the water by putting the drain hose below the level of the washer (this takes forever) and call your repair man back!

When starting the washer, it occasionally will not fill

Check the drain hose. The open end of the pipe the hose drains into must be higher than the top of the washer's tub (usually 30 inches or so off the floor, minimum) or the water can siphon right out. The drain hose should not be a sealed connection to the drain pipe. Try to extend the drain pipe up to about 36 inches off the floor level.
