Log-into your desktop screen as you usually do. Then click start followed by Control Panel. Once you are in the control panel double click Users. Now select the option to change how users log on to Windows. Options appear, I want you to select the option to enable administrative rights. Once selected click Apply followed by ok. Now shutdown your computer and power on again. Log in and now try to install your printer. Please if you need more information give me a shout.
You didn't say what version of windows you use. With some versions you can bypass the password in the safe mode. When the computer starts press F8 until it starts to beep. This gives you the option of starting in safe mode. When you get to the screen where you should put in the password you get the option to log in as administrator with no password required. Log in, go to control panel, find your username and change or delete the password.
If you cannot get in this way there is a program available from http://www.windows-password-recovery.net/ which costs 36 euros or 49 dollars. When you pay for it you get the option to download an image file which you burn to a cd. You can then boot any windows computer with this cd and it gives you the option to delete the log on password without going into windows. You then remove the cd and restart windows with no password.
You need to find your "Operating System CD" sometimes they give you this sort of stuff with your computer but if not, find one from somewhere. Put the CD in when the computer starts and you will see a message saying "Press any key to boot CD" or something similar, boot the CD and press install Windows XP - when you have pressed F8 to agree to Terms and Conditions, it will give you an option to overwrite your current system or Repair. Click repair and it will start installing stuff. DONT WORRY - its not deleting your information its just fixing your computer. When the installation has finished, you will be sorted! - Make sure its a Microsoft windows XP CD though, otherwise you cannot repair your system.
