It sounds like stripped gears, does the mixer still turn on? The beater just wont spin anymore?
If that is the case the worm gear probably stripped out, that is part number w10112253, or for a quicker easier fix you can get that gear in an assembly for a couple more dollars, that would be part number 240309-2.
First, does the housing for the beaters spin when the beaters are not in place? If so, then there may have been a stripping of the cogs in the housing. If this the case, you definitely need to buy a new mixer. If the housing for the beaters does NOT spin period, then there is no question that you do need to buy another mixer.
the spinning plate under the bowl does not have any power to spin the bowl; it only aks as a "lazy susan" carousel that allows the bowl to turn from the movement of the material being wipped in the bowl.
the beaters are purposely off-center of the bowl in ordwer to create a dragging motion of the material in the bowl, thus pulling (that is, spinning) the bowl slowly. If the beaters are not off to the side of the bowl, you will not get the pulling/spinning motion. Also, if the plate under the bowl does not move very easily, then the bowl will not spin. You may have to remove the spin plate and clean the center pivot for the plate to move freely. Good Luck, Macgivor.
This happened to me also, and it was because one of the beaters was no longer straight (bent just slightly, but enough). I found a replacement beater at a thrift store, and now it is fine. There were several replacement beaters at the thrift store... I'm guessing because many of the KA hand mixers are starting to die (the beaters don't 'click' in anymore).
the gears were out of sync, by this time their probly stripped. IF you can get the gears, one must resemble a X and the other must resemble a + when installed, so they look like this X+ that way they wont hit.
Sounds like the shear pin on the planetary shaft has sheared off. Has the mixer been subjected to a heavy load. Remove the planetary and see if the shear pin is intact otherwise you may have to open up the transmission.
The beaters might be fixable/replaceable but the bowl not spinning anymore is the more serious of the 2 problems. If this is several years old iit probably is more cost efective/simpler to replace the whole unit.
