Front inputs? (green and pink not working)

I thought the front was for a microphone and headset. I don't think those are speaker jacks. Look closely at the icon that is next to the pink and green on the front, does it show the icon of a microphone and headset?

Normally the speaker jack will show and arrow going out which means sound going out. If you look at the speaker port in the back of the computer it is normally the light green port. Notice the icon on it. Does the icon on the front look the same as the one on the back? Is the color on the front the same as the one on the back? I think you're plugging into the wrong port.

Make sure you have the volume up in your Audio/Sound properties and make sure you don't have the speakers on mute. Also make sure you turn the speakers on and turn the volume up on them.

What port on the back of the hard drive do I plug the durabrand uc280 USB powered speakers into?

Hi Missy
You don't plug the speakers into the hard drive.
You should have two cables or wires
a USB cable, which you want to plug into any open USB port. the USB cable will not plug into any port other than a USB port, so just find any open one.
The second wire should be a male 3.5mm stereo jack plug.
If you have a desktop computer, look on the back for a round green hole that the stereo jack will fit into. There may or may not be a symbol of headphones. You may not have a symbol or colored hole, in that case find the two or three holes that the plug will fit into, then turn on a program that should have sound, then plug the stereo plug into each of the holes until you hear sound. If you hear no sound no matter which hole, check to make sure you do not have the sound muted.
If you are using a laptop, look for the hole with the headphone symbol.
Hope this helps.

The two speakers emit no sound, they are not found under devices, but you hear a bit of static when you plug them into the port. Surely there cannot be drivers for such a device.I have an Acer with...

Hi maggiepiano1
Check first if you plugged the jack in the right slot ( green ) .
Your speakers don' t need drivers but your sound card well . Check that also .

I don't know which port in the back of the Pavilion to connect the black wire from the speakers (that connect to the right speaker with red and white ends). Any ideas? They are labeled as side, rear...

To get "surround" sound, when you face the computer, you will have:
* 2 front speakers, one immediately on each side of the computer
* 2 side speakers, one on each side of your head
* 2 rear speakers, one behind each side of your head

Thus, when the sound is of a jet-plane coming towards your face,
you'll first hear the sound in the front speakers,
then in the side speakers,
and finally in the rear speakers,
to produce a sound-effect of the jet passing over your head, and going "behind" you.

Usually, for "front" speakers, one speaker connects to the other speaker, and the second speaker connects to the "FRONT-audio-output" connector on your sound-card.

For side speakers, one speaker will connect to the LEFT-side-audio-output port,
and one speaker will connect to the RIGHT-side-audio-output port.

For rear speakers, one speaker will connect to the LEFT-rear-audio-output port,
and one speaker will connect to the RIGHT-rear-audio-output port.

No sound from speakers

Test the speakers by plugging them into something you know has a jack that works, like an iPod or MP3 Player. If the speakers work on that then the issue is with your computer. If it does not work it may be the speakers. Make sure all the plugs are securely connected for both power and sound. If the speakers do work make sure that the computer isn't muted. If the sound is on try using a different port like the headphone port. See if sound comes out of the speakers then. If it still isn't working you may want to try uninstalling the sound drivers and downloading the latest ones to install.

My speakers are plugged in, the error messae sounds are coming through the speakers but the sounds and audio devices say there is nothing plugged in and any media players say the same. I can't find any...

look in the control panel for sounds and audio devices, if the error sounds are coming through, then the speakers are working, leave them plugged into that port, check your speaker configuration setting try setting it to stereo speakers. It also sounds like you may have it set to 5.1 and are only hearing the rear audio channel. problem being your two speakers connected to a 5 - 6 speaker configuration. Again, solved by setting the speaker configuration to 2 speakers (stereo) . Let me know the outcome. Thanks

No sound

Make sure the speaker are plugged into the "audio out" ports. Black negative, red positive.
If a dvd players or other system is hooked up, the speaker should hook into that unit, then the unit is hooked to the auxiliary port(s), or the proper ports for each unit: ex: cd/dvd should be plugged into vd/dvd; same for vcr, game system - auxiliary is for pretty much any unit not listed on the backing of the receive - however, some units will still work while plugged into the ports other than auxiliary.
Make sure the receive is selected to the desired device.
If you simply have the speakers plugged into the speaker ports, make sure the speaker themselves are still good - try hooking them up to another source such as a a dvd player equipped with surround sound or speaker adapters that will suffice your speaker wiring.

Speakers are plugged in but there isn't any sound coming out of the speakers, yet i know the speakers work i tried them on my laptop

Things to check:
  1. Ensure you are plugging into the correct port. Some systems have both integrated audio and and expansion sound card. If it has both, the expansion card should be the port to connect the speakers. Generally all desktops use Green as the speaker jack color.
  2. Ensure the volume control is not muted. Set volume for 75%
  3. Ensure if the audio is integrated, that the audio is enabled in the BIOS
  4. in Control Panel, Sounds and Audio devices, make sure the sound card is the default playback device. Also ensure that Stereo desktop speakers are selected as the speaker tyoe.

I HAVE A DELL OPTIPLEX 170L WITH BA735 SPEAKERS BUT i HAVE NO SOUND

Make sure you have a sound card installed
    • you think you have a sound card installed but you don’t see it under the Sound, video and game controllers category, expand the Other devices category and check any devices listed there.
  1. If there is a yellow question mark next to the name of the sound card, there might be a problem. Right-click the name of the sound card, and then click Properties.
  2. Make sure your speakers are plugged into a working power source and turned on.
  • Make sure your speakers are correctly connected to the computer.
On your speakers, find the cable that plugs into your computer. Make sure that the speaker cable is plugged into the speakers and the correct jack on the computer. For example, if the cable is a 1/8 inch cable, there should be a round jack for it on the back of the computer. If it is a universal serial bus (USB) cable, it will plug into any USB port on your computer.
  • Make sure your headphones are not plugged into the line out (headphone) jack of your sound card or computer (unless you want to be listening with headphones rather than speakers). When you plug in headphones, most computers automatically cut the sound to the speakers.
If these steps don’t solve the problem, check the information that came with your computer and speakers or go to the manufacturer's website.

Sound won't work without the earphones being plugged in

Make sure the speaker volume is turned up and also go into Control Panel, Sounds and make sure nothing is muted and all volumes are turned up. Also make sure the speakers are plugged into the sound jack in the back of the pc. The speakers also need power but since the light is on, it sounds like they are plugged in.
