Question about Computers & Internet

1 Answer

I use Norton 360 v3.0

I was recently attacked by a virus which my Norton 360 did not protect me from. I have been in touch with Norton they cannot give an instant solution however they can put me in touch with an expert remote scan which will fix any problems, however they want a fee of $99.99 for this service. My Norton subsrciption was only renewed 2 months ago and it cost £56, and now Norton want another $99.99 for a problem they should have protected me from. I am unable to indentify the virus but it disables all my Windows XP update and my task manager. My Norton 360 states that I am not protected by SONAR Advanced Protection. Can any help me to identify and remove the virus.

This is a suspected Win32 virus, how long has it been infecting the computer for?
Can you please provide as much detail as you can, for example has your recycle bin been renamed and can you install or uninstall programs?

    Regards

Ok, Anti Virus programs sadly don't catch all virus's, a simple fact of life,

Now I suggust if you can download FREE AVG on another machine, find this by going to google and enter free avg.

PRess f8 when booting up to enter safe mode, do not enter the other safe modes,

now run the avg and it will say it can't install in safe mode but it can scan in a window,

now goto the run command of the start button and enter msconfig

goto the startup tab and untick anything that sounds like jumpled letters etc,

Ok restart, remember if it does not start up right got back in safe mode and retick a box related to the error then restart, please take care when doing this as you may untick a important loadup program.

Sounds like someone managed to get a "backdoor virus" on your computer that allows a third party access to your computer for sending spam, Denial of Service Attacks, etc....

That activity consumes computer resources slowing down your operations to a crawl.

Most good anti-viruses will remove them I use Norton 360 and a few others to catch anything the other misses. I Use Norton 360 for the firewall...

Hi,

You don't have to worry about the attack being transferred to the new computer because they will both have a different IP address.

Providing you protect your computer with a good antivirus software like you are already using then you should be fine although no computer is 100% safe from attacks and viruses.

Norton 360 provides decent internet security plus some attacks are dependant on the site you visit. It's all about being vigilant and protecting your computer the best you can.

Regards.

Some kind of virus has corrupted your operating system. (OS)

I had a similar problem, the best solution would be for you to reinstall your OS and also change the anti virus.

Remember to back up all your data before reinstalling your OS

NORTON 360 STATES 'PHISHING PROTECTION EXPIRED' WHEN IT HASN'T.

This is a billing problem on Symantec's end that neither you or we can resolve. You will have to contact Symantec (manufacturer of Norton) and ask them to kindly resolve this issue. You will have to provide proof of purchase and all that good stuff. Their contact details are located on this web-page. As long as you paid for the Norton 360, everything is bought and paid for until the expiration date and shouldn't expire prior to that date (Unless this is a new business practice of Symantec, wouldn't surprise me you know).

I just have to say this, though. You would be better off with ESET's Smart Security. Uses less system resources and does a much better job defending your system from attacks.

I hope you get the issue resolved.

Open your norton 360 and then updates by clicking upates menu. it will directly updates your norton to the symantec websites or you cam manually updates downloading the update here : dhttp://www.symantec.com/avcenter/download/pages/US-N95.html
After updating restart your system to automatically fixed some errors. If the system still same error just click the balloon on the taskbar and select "i have my antivirus (not probably same word)" something like that. if Finally same error encountered uninstall the norton 360 and again reinstall after rebooting and updates. don't worry about the alert, you know already that you are protected.

Norton 360 has the entire norton protection suite built into it. On top of the firewall, phishing protection, and e-mail protection it also has norton antivirus built right into it. So yes, you have to uninstall antivirus to install 360, but 360 just installs antivirus again. If you ever decide to go back to using just antivirus you can simply redownload it off their web site.
