It's not connected right. Also apparently you have no cpu fan.

I was wondering about that, but I don't see how it could be hooked up wrong. It just plugs right in. The cpu fan seemed to be working fine, it didn't make any noise. If one goes out would that mean I have to replace both?

Your computer seems to be over-heating. There are multiple fan headers on any motherboard. There might be several clumped together as they are running off the 12 volt rail. The cpu has several thermal sensors at various layers in the chip. Some control the fan but the sensor at the core is a shut down sensor. When the limit is reached the shut down is immediate. If you already killed one fan you aren't using a big enough cooling option. You probably need much more ventilation going out of the chassis.

SOURCE: Upon booting, I get a screen that says my CPU fan

You can't order the fan any more. I know because the same thing happened to my aunt's computer. Go to eBay. In the search box, type in "TouchSmart IQ770 CPU Fan repair guide." Get the guide, do what it says. I would put it in here but it won't all fit. You'll probably end up spending around $30 or $40 and a few hours of time, but it works.

Won't start but CPU fan vibrates but will not go full blast. Intermittant

It appears you have a faulty CPU fan and it is causing the CPU to overheat and shut down.
I suggest you replace the CPU fan. remove any dust from the heatsink and put new heatsink compound on the CPU/heatsink.

Be sure to have anti-virus/anti-spyware installed. Microsoft Security Essentials is a free option (just released a month ago or so). Perform a full scan.

Download and install CCleaner (www.ccleaner.com) use default settings (for amateurs) and chooser RUN in the bottom right corner. Then go to the Registry tab (top left) and, leaving all options checked, Scan for Issues. Create a backup before you fix the problems it finds (it will prompt you).

Unless you have a hardware issue (lack of RAM, etc.) this should help to speed you up considerably.

Cpu fan

It isn't detecting your fan as the fan may be dead or the sensor is dead. Both are not repairable but cheaply replaced and fixed with a new fan. The cost of the replacement cpu fan is not that much compared to a cpu. So don't try to make it last a bit longer by hitting the f1 to continue. That will catch up with you pretty quick.

If you want to double check you need to look at either the cmos setup section of a system monitoring software and check to see cpu fan speed and cpu temps. You may not see the speed but you should see the temps. If the temp is getting over 55-60 or more shut down and go get the fan. It's dead. If you see the rpms showing then you might have a motherboard problem.

However I would say you have a dead fan. Replacements are $5-15 and you need to just crack the case and pull the old one and put in the new one. You can take it to a tech but they will charge you to check it out again and then ti replace the fan and some shops will insist on new heat sink etc (those don't ever ever wear out or go bad at all)

The computer is not booting up

it is possible the the cpu itself is burned out,be sure you plugged the fan into the right place on the main board, also unplugg the fan see if the machine botts, remember if it does shut it down right away and get another fan

Computer keeps shutting down.

Do the fan's spin when you power the PC on? All of the fans should spin up for at least a second upon initial boot. The CPU fan and video fan (if you have an external card) will spin the entire time the PC is on and vary in speed depending on temperature.

Try booting the PC with the side of the case off and note and fans that aren't spinning. The temperature to shut off the CPU is really high. If the temperature is getting hot enough to do this, you should notice a failure in a fan right away.
