All SD cards have a write protection switch on the side opposite the little notch near the contacts; that's the left side. Remove the card from the camera and look at the card. Move the switch towards the contacts if it is in the locked position. Replace the card in the camera without moving the switch. Check if it works now.

Check if the switch moves very easily when you toggle it. (If you don't see the switch at all, the card is damaged.) Plan on replacing the card. There are ways to temporarily unlock the card. That involves cutting any remaining plastic from the switch. Then wrap the switch area with a small piece of invisible (Scotch) tape. Make sure that the tape is completely flat against the top and bottom of the SD card around that slot. Do not cover the contacts on the end with the tape.

One additional thing to try: backup the files on the card. Then try to format the card (with the switch in the unlocked position).

I hope this helps.

What type and size memory card? The Z885 works with MMC and SD cards. It won't work with higher-capacity SDHC cards.

I have a Kodak Z990 easy share camera and memory card is protected came up and said reset switch on memory card. How do I reset memory card

SD and SDHC cards have a slide switch along one edge. The position farthest from the metal contacts locks the card, protecting it from writes. The position nearest the contacts unlocks the card.

Maybe it is having trouble with the size of the memory. Memory cards have grown enormously in capacity in the last couple of years, and even relatively new cameras may not be able to cope with the memory size of the newest cards. It is often difficult to find out the maximum capacity a camera will use, as today's memory cards are much larger that those available when the manual for the camera was written.

SD and SDHC cards fit the same slots, but many cameras won't work with the SDHC (high capacity) cards. SDHC is not backwards compatible. If the card you are trying to format is above 2GB, it will be an SDHC card.

Bought a new Lexar 8GB memory card and having trouble formatting it for the Kodak Easy Share V530

The V530 works with SD cards. Your new 8GB card is an SDHC card. While SDHC cards will fit into the slot, they are electronically incompatible and will not work. You need to go with SD cards, 2GB and smaller.

No. Can you get into the camera menu when you turn the camera on? If so, go to "format" by way of the menu rather than clicking on continue. Also, be sure the slide switch on the side of the card is in the unlocked position.

If you're using an SD card, it doesn't have a reset switch. It does have a switch to lock (protect) and unlock the card. It should be in the unlocked position.
