SOURCE: I have a Craftsman 17hp....tractor was working

Hey there,

Amps? Are you sure you weren't measuring voltage?

Either way the number is low indicating a depleted battery.

Try a jump. Just like you would a car with a dead battery. Be careful, it's a lot more cramped so take care to avoid a short. The result should be instantaneous. It's worked for me numerous times.

And it will not damage your tractor.

Best regards,

SOURCE: I have CraftsmanLT1000 lawn tractor, Smokes heavily.

First check the oil, not only the level but the smell
if its overfull and it smells like gasoline then the problem is that your carb is dirty or the float is sticking and flooding the engine with gas. If the oil is at the correct level then the problem is more likely the valve stem seals, as the engine warms they leak. I presume you have checked the airfilter is clean? The choke is comming off completely when you move the throttle cable? The LT 1000 is the entry level rider in the sears line. The engine usually starts wearing out in about 50 hours use. Remember the sweetness of low price is long forgotten with the bitterness of low quality!

Many times a dirty air filter will cause this on this style of engine. When the filter is plugged, it creates a 'rich' fuel condition, and the engine smokes heavily, the excess carbon is drawn into the air filter, and plugs it even more.

check spark plugs, air filter, fuel filter, choke linkages (for full choke/no choke operation) and crankcase oil.

Crankcase oil can become fuel contaminated, thus overfilling the crankcase and filling the crankcase breather with raw oil/fuel, and this is drawn into the air filter, plugging it, and starting this senerio.

If there is fuel in the crankcase oil, drain completely, and refill with fresh oil. Then you need to look towards the carb for an inlet needle sticking, broken, worn.

Have your mechanic set your intake/exhaust valves at .004 when piston is 1/4 inch past top dead center on compression stroke.

I have a 97 Bravada that won't start. When I turn the key on the radio and other accessories turn on but the dash never turns on and the truck won't start. It turns over just fine. I checked the...

Yes, it is electrical alright. But probably not due to the fuel pump, I would bet the pump won't turn on as long as the dash won't, cause the ignition system is not on. It's probably either a blown fuse for the ignition or a bad ignition switch. So check all your underhood fuses.
