So if you use one or the other you get nothing? You should have at least something on one of them. The issue may be that there is not enough friction with one pedal to stop that wheel; How do the brake pads look?

Transmission locked up in park


Turn the ignition on so the lights are all up on the dash dont start the vehicle. Put your foot on the brake pedal and make sure u can hear the shift lock click in and out with repeated brake pedal applications. If you cant hear it check the shift lock switch onder the dash on brake pedal. Might be built into the brake light switch check that they work also. I hope this helps

Ford f150 shifter


Some year models have a electric lock on the brake pedal lever under the dash. Usually you can check it by pressing the brake pedal and observing the brake lights. If you lose this signal, the shift lever will not move from Park.

There can also be a shift rod inside the steering column which is linked to the ignition key. The shift rod can also be affected by the brake pedal switch failing to release the selector from Park. All 3 parts, ignition shift rod, brake pedal switch, and transmission release are adjusted together. Meaning if 1 does not work, the other 2 can be affected.

I had to remove the brake pedals and having problems putting them back together especially the part which locks the pedals when you are on a hill in order that the tractor will not move.


I am not sure it is problem of brake pedal, you have to check the brake pad and brake caliper, wrong pad and brake caliper problem will cause problem.

Hi,
Under the hood is the Master Cylinder. It contains brake fluid, which when you depress the brake pedal, acts as hydraulic fluid to flow through high pressure tubing called brake lines, from the Master Cylinder to the Wheel Cylinder (drum brakes) or Brake Piston Caliper (disc brakes). As you depress the pedal further hydraulic pressure expands the wheel cylinder which presses outward, 2 brake shoes inside a metal "drum" (drum brakes) or clamp the brake piston calipers together squeezing a disc-like rotor (disc brakes) thus stopping the vehicle.

Have a 1998 ford windstar. it will start and the steering wheel turns. but it will not come out of park. seems like it is jammed. E brake is not engaged. push on brake peddle as required while taking out...


It is not the neutral safety switch, it only prevents the car from starting in gear. It is the solenoid on the shifter itself, you have two switches, one is the key lock itself, the key has to be on, and the other is the brake pedal , as you know, has to be engaged. The brake pedal switch is a little box like thing on the pedal or hitting the pedal, it also has the brake light switch there too, so, if you don't know which it is, disconnect one and see if the brake lights work, you will know which it is, If you can get the wires off the shift lock, put them together, you have to find out which way the switch works, it either breaks the circuit or closes it, but it needs to klik the solenoid in order to pull out of park. you can also take the cover off the shifter, easier on the floor, and remove the solenoid itself. It should be OK till you can get the switch fixed or whatever. It is usually the brake switch, the key switch is rare. Hope this helps.

Wont go out of park


Do the brake lights work? You may have a defective brake pedal switch. There is a switch which knows if the pedal is depressed. If it's not depressed it will lock the shifter in place. That switch is located above the brake pedal under the dashboard. If the brake lights DO work, then you may have a problem with the solenoid that locks the shifter. When you press the brake, you should be able to hear a small click come from the gear selector. You can try to replace the brake switch if the brake lights don't work. Should only cost a few $$.

Brake light switch not meeting brake pedal


The brake light switch should be adjustable in as much as you can screw the switch holder around until it is the required distance from the brake pedal - the switch holder should have a locking nut, which requires undoing first then locking back once you have obtained satisfactory adjustment,thats assuming that the switch itself isn't broken or faulty.
