When you put your magicjack on your computer , it should goto their site and download the needed software and just follow the prompts , if not goto their website and follow their instruction they do have online help which you can talk to someone , , I had their service for about 12 years now it is the best thing , if you want to port a number it will cost another 20 one time fee i think , I get it for 5 years at a time ,good choice never had a problem since I had it , .

a 6ya expert can help you resolve that issue over the phone in a minute or two.
best thing about this new service is that you are never placed on hold and get to talk to real repairmen in the US.
the service is completely free and covers almost anything you can think of (from cars to computers, handyman, and even drones).
click here to download the app (for users in the US for now) and get all the help you need.

Question: is the magicJack plugged directly into the USB port on the computer or through a USB hub? If it's plugged into a hub, try plugging it directly to the port on the machine.

After 2 days of frustration I was able to solve this by the following:
1. Click Start
2. right click my computer and select properties
3. select hardware then Device Manger
4. click + DVD/CD-ROM Drives
5. right click Tiger Jet CD-ROM USB Drive then Uninstall
6. unplug Magic Jack wait 15 secs
7. Plug back in and let device re-install, MJ may start here, if not...
8. Click Magic Jack Icon, program should start
I have to do this everytime I unplug or restart my computer. I don't know exactly why it hangs like this but this procedure works for me everytime. Good Luck

Welcome to Fixya. After you plug in your magicJack for the very first time, you will be given the option to select a number from one of many area codes. If the number is already taken you won't be able to keep the old number since it is already registered to the other magicjack.
