well; now i have 3 flashing lights on the front which normally wouuld tell that the lamp is bad; however; i had the lamp tested and it works just fine; so where do i go from here?

and i just replaced the color wheel; but the end of the orange/copper colored ribbon cable broke off when i gently tried to push it into the slot on the dmd board. Could the lights flashing be due to the color wheel cable?

  • Russ Hill
    Russ Hill Apr 05, 2014

colour wheel has volts for the motor a feed for speed of the fan and temperature the wheel is at if its broken the the lights will come on, and tv will not turn on fan or light. has a check list on startup all the checks have to be good for tv to startup if there is enough space on the ribbon cable were the damage is you can warm up the ribbon and gently take off the top coat to make a new connection you can do it with a hair dryer and a flat table etc to take off the top coat. then you can fit it. .

its just the ribbon cable you dont need to think about it being the colour wheel. as long as there is around 5mm, take the wheel out with a hair dryer heat the end of the cable were it needs to be fixed. put it on flat surface and try to lift the corner up on one side you will need to keep warming it up. and go a long lifting the top layer up. stanley knife (sharp) when you get the area up you need cut off the lip you have made. and put some clear tape over a tiny bit of were you have cut the lift off this will stop it weakening the rest of the ribbon. then cut the bad part part were the brake has finished, (It has to be straight) best to use some sharp scissors to cut straight. when this is done you may need to put some tape on the bottom of the part you removed before to stiffen this part. and has to be cut to the same size as the cable is upto the lip of the other tape you put on. then with a bit of emery cloth clean the connection parts then its all good to use now. if you feel you cannot do this there is another way you can fix it, there are a few place's on e-bay you can buy a ribbon cable. and fit this new cable to the colour wheel in the same way the old cable is fitted. as long as the cable is the same thickness and has the same amount of connections it will work, also there may even be the ribbon cable number on the original one you have and it will still be in some system on the internet. hope this helps you fix this now.

    Matt Apr 05, 2014

Well there is a problem now. I ended up cutting a little too much off. Now there is no cable left. I do however have the original color wheel that broke; It still has the original copper/orange colored ribbon cable in tact. But how do I get it and the circuit like board that the cable is attached to off. Also, I tried to get the screws that hold the good color wheel out but no matter what i try I cant. Any ideas? I was going to just put the good part that has the good color wheel in the good housing with all the good parts but i cant get the screws that hold everything together out. Where do i go from here.

  • Russ Hill
    Russ Hill Apr 05, 2014

can you give me the model number of the colour wheel as there are a few makes and models slight differences in them. the trox screws are glued ins aswell, you need to warm them up to be able to undo them, when i have taken one apart i put the end of the soldering iron on the head of the screw for a bit till its warmed up then undo it.

  • Matt
    Matt Apr 06, 2014

Where do i find the model number for the color wheel? On the white sticker that is on it?

  • Matt
    Matt Apr 06, 2014

actuall i think i may have found it. The samsung part number is bp96-00674a then it has the number below it(this is coming from the box that it came in) 20131115. Is that what you are looking for?

  • Russ Hill
    Russ Hill Apr 06, 2014

This is the one, right you need to put it in a vice,,, the casing not the wheel. with rubber or something to stop the vice damaging it, and a good PH1 screwdriver one with a socket shaft. you will hear it click when you movie the screw each time.. when you get the 3 screws off. there is a place that can be glued on, price it off carefully from the edge and the motor will fall out.then its just a de solder the cable. I have done this model before.

  • Matt
    Matt Apr 06, 2014

well unfortunately i dont believe I have a vice. So how can i do it without one?

  • Matt
    Matt Apr 06, 2014

I dunno; Im almost at the point where i would just rather send it back for a replacement since it has a 90 day warranty on it and it hasnt even been close to 90 days. Ive already called the ebay seller i bought it from and left a message but im just waiting to hear back from him. Im not sure whether i shoukd try further or just wait and send it back for replacement

  • Russ Hill
    Russ Hill Apr 06, 2014

if you do get a replacement dont say you have damaged it they will not give you a replacement. as it was your fault. you can doit without a vice hold it between your knee's and do it this way.

  • Matt
    Matt Apr 06, 2014

    hold it between my knees?

  • Matt
    Matt Apr 06, 2014

also; in desoldering the circuit board that the ribbon is attached to; where do i touch the soldering tip to; in order to get the round printed board off?

  • Matt
    Matt Apr 06, 2014

cause there is a round printed circuit board orange/copper in color that the one end of the ribbon is attached to. So how do i get that off of the bad wheel?

  • Russ Hill
    Russ Hill Apr 06, 2014

de soldering usually just removes the ribbon from the board the motor is connected to the board from the other side. there is a glue they use to hold the ribbon cable to the board before they fix it to the board. you just start from one side and lift at the same time as desolering the ribbon

  • Russ Hill
    Russ Hill Apr 06, 2014

use a good knife to get the corner up and de solder and do it this way to the other end and has come off

  • Matt
    Matt Apr 06, 2014

welp; its too late now. Now i have to exchange it for sure as the the wheel itself broke somehow. Not sure how

  • Matt
    Matt Apr 06, 2014

and to add to it; if they dont exchange it; I will open a case on ebay against them; and in the end if i really have to; i will dispute the charge with my bank.

  • Russ Hill
    Russ Hill Apr 07, 2014

hope you get a new one, it is hard to get the ribbon off, its alot of time and patience to remove the ribbon, you need to make sure that you can get your money back the best way you can. hope it all goes well for you.

Russ; if you see this; I almost forgot: what is the best and most careful way to get the orange/copper colored ribbon cable for the color wheel in place? Thanks Matt

  • Russ Hill
    Russ Hill Apr 08, 2014

there is no real best way, just carefully locate it from above till in the slot then push it in, they dont give you the right amount off space for your fingers, so has to be done in 2 stages locate. then push in. hope this helps and good luck.

  • Matt
    Matt Apr 22, 2014

Russ; if you are still following this; I got the ribbon cable in place; got the new color wheel in place; however; the lamp will still not light; and i know its not the lamp itself as i had it tested at a tv repair place and it was working fine when it was tested. Could it be the dmd board; as thats the only thing i can think of thats left? I really dont want to have to shell out for a replcement board; but i guess i may have to if it comes down to it. Let me know what ya think. Thanks Matt

  • Matt
    Matt Apr 22, 2014

and is there a way tot test the dmd board without having to take the whole board to a repair place?

  • Matt
    Matt Apr 22, 2014

Or could it be my ballast thats bad?

  • Russ Hill
    Russ Hill Apr 23, 2014

You need to check the voltage on the feed board. its high ac in on end mains supply side then there is the switch voltage between 9v-24v also a switch that needs to be in place so the board knows that the bulb is in place, if it is turning on and no light what is the led's doing on the front of the tv.

  • Matt
    Matt Apr 23, 2014

Well; problem is i dont have a multi-meter to test for voltage; and i dont have the funds for it either; so what else can i do?

  • Matt
    Matt Apr 23, 2014

Well as far as the led's go; when i try to turn on the tv; I get the lamp indicator flashing as if its trying to get the lamp to kcik on; but while im holding down the switch for the lamp cover; and trying to get ti to turn on; it tries to turn on 3 times; then i get all 3 lights flashing: timer, lamp; and standby/temp

  • Matt
    Matt Apr 23, 2014

Im beginning to wonder if i should just say screw it and order a new ballast for it. I know its not the lamp as thats been tested and is working and Im positive its not the dmd board as when it has power going to it Ive got a green light on the dmd board which should mean its working. So with that in mind; the only thing thats left that it could be is the ballast? You think it is?

  • Russ Hill
    Russ Hill Apr 23, 2014

check the bulb holder, when you had the bulb out you did put it some were safe as they can get damaged very easy. I have a few new bulbs but they are damaged. check it with a meter before going down the line of a new ballast also check that all wire are fitted.

  • Matt
    Matt Apr 23, 2014

yes i have been very careful with the bulb and from what i can see it is not cracked or anything and its not burned out

  • Matt
    Matt Apr 23, 2014

plus the lamp/bulb is still in its black case/holder to hopefully protect it. But even with that Ive still been very careful with it

  • Matt
    Matt Apr 23, 2014

i also did check all cables and wires and I know they are all in the right place

  • Matt
    Matt Apr 23, 2014

but i need to double check something; the wire cable with the round black thing around the wires; that goes to the top of the dmd board and the other one goes to the fan control board if im not mistaken; is that right?

  • Russ Hill
    Russ Hill Apr 23, 2014

this is the closest pic i could find there is two sockets. top one is for the dlp chip fan on left in pick bottom one is for the system fan cooler for the light don't get them the wrong way round . also if the system fan is not working it will not turn on. also same if the colour wheel is not working as well.

  • Matt
    Matt Apr 23, 2014

well as i said; i just replaced the color wheel; placed the ribbon cable and other white cable in place securely; but still no dice as far as the lamp goes. I will have to double check the wires

  • Matt
    Matt Apr 23, 2014

honestly for some reason i still believe its the ballast thats bad; as while it doesnt look bad and there are no burn marks or anything; that doesnt mean everything as it can still be bad

  • Russ Hill
    Russ Hill Apr 23, 2014

if the ballast was fine before it still should be fine are you getting the buzz on startup should doe one buzz then fans come on, then there is the hum off the bulb fan, then it goes to start the ballast. try taking the ballast cable off the bulb and pushing it in and out of the socket a few times. also check to see the switch is still working with a meter.

  • Russ Hill
    Russ Hill Apr 23, 2014

just got the rest of your posted... its taking its time. if you don't have a meter, the switch put a bit of an old paper clip in the socket on the wire to the board save you pushing the switch. there is not much you can do if you don't have a meter. its the only way you can test the board and the power etc. only way to test if you have power is a 12v bulb on some wire but you cannot test the ballast this way, only the volts to the switching part of the board.

  • Matt
    Matt Apr 24, 2014

Well as i said before; the lamp is not the issue as its been tested by a repair place and is in working order. Well there must be something i can do as i can not afford a meter. Im about to go out of my mind here(actually its too late for that; ive alrady been there lol) so im not sure what i should do from here. As far as the ballast goes; I hear one click when the tv tries to turn on; Im assuming thats the ballast. I didnt hear any buzz the last time i tried to turn it on; so does it mean that the ballast is bad?

  • Matt
    Matt Apr 25, 2014

Another thought is that the dmd board is bad. Although i am getting a green light on the dmd board when power is applied to the tv. I then found out i had the ribbon cable in backwards; as i thought it should be facing the front of the tv when the part of the ribbon cable with the metal contacts is suppose to face toward the rear. So i reversed it so its facing the rear; plugged everything back in and still; of course; no lamp. So now im wondering if i have a bad ballast or dmd board or both

  • Matt
    Matt Apr 25, 2014

The only things i seem to hear when everything is plugged in is the quiet fans for the dlp chip and the one on the other side(the bigger one). I dont seem to hear any spinning of the color wheel or buzzing of the ballast all of course when power is applied.

  • Russ Hill
    Russ Hill Apr 25, 2014

I dont know how i can help you need a meter to check everything,if the original problem has been replaced but you still have the problem the only thing i can think off is the replacement it not working. ballast will only come on after the colour wheel is moving. if there is no signal from the colour wheel to say its moving the light will not come on, if you had another tv with the hdv cable attachment on it you could see what the problem is, the cable from the avi board to the projector. this is the only other way a can see how you will find the problem. on the tv when attacked you will get an ios announcement somthing like fan 1 fail etc.

  • Matt
    Matt Apr 25, 2014

and this leads me to believe that its either the dmd board; the ballast; or both

  • Matt
    Matt Apr 26, 2014

Well; i may have to contact the original seller and see if i can get a 4th wheel sent out as this one may be defective

  • Matt
    Matt Apr 28, 2014

    Any other ideas?

  • Russ Hill
    Russ Hill Apr 28, 2014

it's hard to say without a meter reading. I have a afew meters for different jobs but you can get cheap meters. even just basic meters. they are like gold dust in repairs to electrical equipment or even if you have to check a fuse. speaking of fuses there is a fuse on the ballast board cannot remember the number on but its on the high volts side after the connector its like a trip switch fuse pop's then after 5 min resets its self. they can get damaged and not reset. but they as cheap as chips to replace.

  • Matt
    Matt Apr 28, 2014

what does the fuse look like. I found another suggestion to check the jumper for the color wheel. Where do i find the jumper for the wheel at?

  • Russ Hill
    Russ Hill Apr 28, 2014

fuse is a black box has 4-5 connections on it 2 on the high volt side. jumper for the colour wheel. thats going to hard to test without a meter. its a chip think it has 6 pins on it just on the op side of were the cable goes in for the colour wheel. has 3volts and 5 volts control to speed the wheel up and down when needed.

  • Matt
    Matt Apr 28, 2014

when you say black box; do you mean on the ballast; or somewhere else? And is the fuse on the ballast itself; or another part?

  • Russ Hill
    Russ Hill Apr 28, 2014

its a fuse switch its on the ballast board follow the live in and you will come to it on the board. has between 9v 12volts in the other side to switch the high voltage into the board. the unit has a built in fuse inside. you cannot change the fuse you have to change the switch.

  • Matt
    Matt Apr 29, 2014

if ya have to change the fuse; it sounds like i would just be better off getting a whole new ballast altogether.

  • Russ Hill
    Russ Hill Apr 29, 2014

fuse switch is only a few ponds or dollars depending were you are, were as a board is a lot lot more.

  • Matt
    Matt Apr 29, 2014

well i still have no idea where the fuse is; and plus there could be something else wrong with the ballast that would make it worth it to spend the extra to get a working ballast. I just hope if get a new(well used but working ballast) that i also dont have to throw a new dmd board at it. If there is a way you can put up a diagram with the picutre of the ballast pointing to where the fuse is; that would be good so i can at least find it.

  • Matt
    Matt May 01, 2014

also; does the fact that I dont hear any spinning of the color wheel and buzzing from the ballast mean the dmd board ia probably bad? because thats what im thinking as ive been looking through other forums etc and some people that have had the same issues i believe had it end up being the dmd board

  • Russ Hill
    Russ Hill May 01, 2014

before the original problem started was there any other problems with the screen colour, white spots or black spots. color wheel will give you wrong colors screen flicker... was there anything like star trek screensaver?.

  • Matt
    Matt May 01, 2014

nope; none at all. I still sorta think its the dmd board because the dmd board provides power for the color wheel; and if the color wheel doesnt spin; the ballast wont fire even with power connected to it if im not mistaken. Thats why i think its the dmd board.

  • Russ Hill
    Russ Hill May 02, 2014

well its up to you i would have a meter on it first, just to test every thing volts resistance etc save throwing money into a dead duck.

  • Matt
    Matt May 02, 2014

Without using a meter; do you think from what it sounds like; that its the dmd board since the dmd board provides power to the color wheel and im not hearing any spinning of the wheel, buzzing from the ballast and am not getting any lamp even though I know the lamp is fine?

  • Matt
    Matt Jul 09, 2014

hello again Russ; its matt. I have tried everything i can think of and am wonering what your thoughts are. I have replaced practically everything; the dmd board; the lamp; the ballast and the color wheel and i still cant get the lamp to fire. I replaced the lamp with a authentic new in the samsung box lamp. what else can i do or what should i do from here? Thanks Matt

TV Screen 'freezing' while watching.

Most likely the DMD board is at fault. If the DMD board is failing it will hold the data lines in the set down which will cause it to stay on until you unplug it. The part number for the DMD board is BP96-00249A but I suggest you have a technician verify the issue and replace the board as it requires mechanical alignment after wards. You need to replace the dmd board. In some cases it is more cost effective to replace the entire optical engine which includes the dmd board, lamp, ballast and color wheel for about the same amount of money and is easier to install.
