How do I find the belt on the electrolux epic 6500. My husband picked up a scarf end, and now the brush won't turn to clean the rug. A rectangular light came on, I do not know what that means.

Turn off power. Remove the screws in the bottom plate of the vacuum head. The belt is around the beater bar inside the power head. Pull the beater bar out of its bracket to access the belt.

I was told by a previous repair man that there is a fuse in the beater bar that needed to be replaced.

Up to my experience in my Panasonic vacuum cleaner, if the beater bar is not working this could be because the 'Carpet/Floor' selector switch is in the 'OFF' or 'FLOOR' position. In both of these positions the beater bar will not rotate. Move the selector switch to the 'CARPET' position. When in this position the beater bar will rotate once the foot pedal is pressed.

If the selector switch is in the 'CARPET' position and the beater bar is still not rotating it could be that there is something entangled in the beater bar, or the belt is worn or broken.

To check this first unplug the vacuum cleaner

Inspect the beater bar and belts to ensure that there is nothing entangled in the beater bar and that the belts are intact and are not excessively worn. If the belts are excessively worn they may slip resulting in the beater bar not rotating.

The vacuum cleaners often have an overload protection system inside the nozzle, which stops the nozzle motor when the beater bar jams to prevent belt breakage. After clearing any lint build up or jamming you may need to reset the overload protection, by pressing the reset button on the top of the floor nozzle.

Belt is broken. Not sure how to replace

1. Get a long screw driver (probably phillips head) a strip of tape.
2. Look around underneath your vac for screws... look carefully because sometimes they are sneaky and hidden in weird areas like under the wheels, etc.
3. Take screws out stick them in order on tape turned upwards. (remember how you took them out.)
4. Gently remove the bottom cover.
5. Clean and remove debris, hair, dust bunnies, rocks... whatever.
6. Determine where the belt goes, disengage the beater bar on that side (may need to unscrew something) Belt on beater bar gears. Other end of belt on motor end... then stretch belt with beater bar until it fits back in it's place and replace any screws, etc.
7. Make sure the belt is seated properly.
8. replace cover, screws... test.**

** sometimes belts require that you put a twist in them so it can transition from the motor's direction to the beater bar's direction... if you twist the wrong way... the beater bar will spit dirt out the front of the vac.. (it's bulldozing it) In that case remove cover and twist the belt the other way.

Good luck.

The brush on my Electrolux Versatility will not spin. You can spin it by hand, but the motor will not spin it.

Hello, W/D here.
Since the brush will not spin, but the motor works, either the belt has come off of the motor shaft, the belt is worn past it's useful life, or the beater bar has seized.
1. Turn off the power (unplug).
2. Remove the bottom plate. With the plate off, use your finger to test the tension of the belt. It should be tight, and roll when you roll the beater bar by hand.
3. Remove the beater bar and belt. Inspect the beater bar, particularly by the bearings. Remove any twine, hair, etc.
4. Inspect the belt for abnormal wear. If there is any significant wear in the belt, replace it.
5. Reassembly is in the reverse order. Place the belt on the beater bar. While holding the beater bar close to it's position, place the belt on the motor shaft. Rotate the beater bar bearings to their proper position and install the beater bar. Replace the cover plate.

Best regards, --W/D--

The motor is spinning and spinning the beater motor but the beater bar wont spin

Check to see if the drive belt to the beater is broken. Also, remove the beater brush and clean as best you can. Add some WD40 at both ends of the brush where the hard rubber/plastic pieces are that hold it in the unit. Spin the beater by hand to make sure it moves freely.

How to change belt on sears vacuum cleaner

I believe you turn the vac over so the beater bar (brush) is facing up.
Depending on the age there maybe screws or tabs that hold the plate on to the bottom of the unit. Remove those and the plate. That should expose the bar, belt and motor pulley. If the beater bar doesn't pop out when the bottom plate is removed, pull it out and remove from belt. (Pay attention to how the bar was inserted. It may have a pentagonal shape and only fit properly when inserted a certain way.
Now is a good time to clean the beater bar.
Replace with correct size belt and reassemble in reverse order.

Hope this helps.
If so, please rate me.
Thanks,
Matt

Vacuum won't pick up any dirt - there's no roller marks when vacuuming carpet. Roller does turn and filters are clean.

Hi,

When you turn the roller, you should feel some resistance from the belt. Remove the base blate that surrounds the beater bar. Check the belt. Take care in removing the beater bar, so you can get it back in the same way it comes out. Clean the beater bar while you have the bottom open. If you remove the beater bar to replace the belt, take the time to inspect the cavity behind the beater bar where the vacuum picks up. That is where vacuums usually stop up. Reassemble the vacuum. If necessary, slip the belt over the motor shaft and then slide the roller undre the belt. Install the beater bar back in the sockets and replace the base plate.
Best regards,

It has no suction...last couple of times while using the vacuum it would cut itself off. If I tried to use it the next day it would do the same thing

Hi,
You vacuum is probably plugged up. Flip it over, beater bar up, and remove the plate that surrounds the beater bar. The beater bar needs to come out next. If the belt is good, it will be a little hard to remove. The beater bar sits in sockets that then go ilto the vacuum frame, so note how they come out as you ease the beater bar out and slip the belt off of the bar. There's a cavity behind the beater bar where the vacuum picks up debris. Stuff hangs up there, and you'll need to remove whatever is plugging you up. While you have everything open, give it a general cleaning. Remove anything wound around the beater bar, etc., and reassemble the vacuum in the reverse order.
Best regards --W/D-- -- please feel free to rate this solution - thanx!
